Shopping problems

I went shopping yesterday and looked for material that would match a shirt I had. I found one that matched perfectly in the store but when I got it home and looked at it in the daylight it was way off. Have you ever taken anything back because once you got it out in the daylight it was completely different? I remember while in college taking home ect. They had us take blocks of material home and stand in sun light and put the cloths up to our face to see what it really looked like.

I took a fashion course and they did what you did, we were told to look at the material outside because in the stores it was different. We got swatches of what would suit us, so it was as if we had to take the whole dress outside. But I have found when I got home, the material looked horrible on me whereas it would have looked good in the store. I guess that is why I prefer black and white. You cannot go wrong with that.

That is best. You really cannot put on a dress and go outside the store to see how it looks without the security guard having to come out with you and saying, "Not again!" but I still have that little folder of swatches that I got from thirty to forty years ago. And I got a book that tells what styles suit me. It does help.

It is interesting that instructors are still having their students experiment with swatches like I did over 50 years ago.

yes it will happen some times if you know the store well you may be able to ask them if you can step out side for a minutes to see what your looking at under natural light but most stores will take it back but may only give you store credit

In a small store where they know you they might do that. I don't see Wal-Mart allowing that.

If a person was a seamstress that would be a great idea! Or even if they simply sew for their self and loved ones.. To be sure to seek out a bright window or light to look at things under when shopping and the like.. Good idea!

Yes, I have. I can remember a few times I bought blouses and had to return them because I thought they were a different color. Makes a big difference when you see it in the daylight compared to the lights in the stores. Same goes for make-up sometimes too which is aggravating to me.

The best way that would be beneficial would be to wear the item where you would wear it the most and see if you liked it.

It's such a nuisance. I know. Especially with make-up. I don't really like bringing stuff back, I feel intimidated. But those friggin way too yellow store lights can make the color look really different. Especially with lipsticks... almost all the time. Once I bought a lipstick that I thought was a nice pinkish red, but in daylight, it was a lighter pink... not bad, but it wasn't why I bought that. The same with foundation shades... sometimes you can't even tell the difference between shades on your skin because the lights are too blinding...

Even with shades given names they still don't come out the same. Clothes from different stores may have the same size written on them but when you try them they don't fit the same. I am having to let out some of my husbands shirts even they are the same size that I have always gotten but I got them at a different store.

Take the clothes that you want to match along with you, then you can find a suitable match according to color in the dim light. When you see both in the dim light, you will be able to make a satisfying choice.

I did take the shirt I wanted to match and it was a perfect match until I got it out into sun light. I would have taken it back but live 60 miles away. I find I have to do the same with some decorative pillows. I have to wait until I get daylight to get a match I can be happy with.

there are plenty ideally like saving daylight and also the traffic outside and as you said we need to be alert
