I am a "potato" person.

I was answering a post about potatoes and other things related and it occured to me that I was a potato person. My mother always had rice "going" when I was a child, so that even if someone came, she would fry a couple of eggs of see if there was a steak around. There are other people who have pasta as their staple food, basically because it is so easy to make. But I love the versatility of potatoes. I buy them at the farmer`s market and they let me select them one by one. I have a cold and dry place to place them (near where onions and garlic is) and they don`t rot. I mash my potatoes, created a potato pizza for Vicente, I like my own french fries. Would you define yourself by what you eat? What kind of food is the food that defines you? Share!

It seems like in this situation that we are talking about the kinds of starch that we have as a very important part of our diets. For me, I would say that there is really not a starch that I would define myself by. I know that there are a lot of times that we will have potatoes as the starch that we will have to go with our meal. However, there are also a lot of times that we will have pasta and there are other times that we will have rice. I guess that means that I'm just a very well-rounded person.

I eat all of them too, but I like potatoes best as I feel they are more versatile. I`m the kind of person who doesn`t like to eat the same thing often. So even though I love pasta, I save sauce in the freezer to have some a couple of weeks later. I use that sauce with rice sometimes, or fry an egg over it to make it different.

I grew up having rice on the table on each meal. But when I got older, I have switched to loving pasta, pizza and sandwiches. I don't think that it is because of being lazy of having to use both hands to hold the spoon and fork, but I just loved all the three food I mentioned.

My kids love to eat spaghetti. And so when I feel in the mood of cooking, I make two sauces- the red sauce that kids love and my white sauce. Goes well with that tasty french bread! Yum!

I get frozen pizza and order it in. I just found a great pizza place within walking distance of home! So these days I go there too. It is rare for me to have a bad pizza. The best is made at Uno's. I go there for me birthday every year.

Hello margi, Since I came to this country I have been "a rice Person" more than a potato one. I used to be a potato person more than anything. Rice with Fried Eggs and maybe fried ham is one of the most used dishes in this country. (Lo mas socorrido) Rice with fried eggs and sometimes I fry green and red peppers with them fresh if I can get them or if not to compensate I put a salad with it as well. No mistaking I like potatoes too but rice just as much.xxx

Hiya margi, I am having a blast writing to people this week with all these ideas that I am really enjoying too. Is that Ham so expensive where you live then? Shame on them. It should not be seeing as you are where you are. I would have thought it a bit more expensive than here but not that much. If you lived near to me I would share mine with you. Mind you I don´t buy the whole leg of Ham that is beyond me too I buy it in bits and pieces in packets you know when I can. I buy Navidul which is one of the better marks you get less but the taste and quality is better. Don´t wait for your Birthday gal go and get what you can and share it around hey save a piece for me. Me I make a sort of Paella but nothing like the Valencian Paella which is supreme of course. They would not stop me from eating two whole plates in one go so tasty oh yummy yummy. So you hear me now and out to buy a bit of that Ham don´t dream about it manifest it even if its in a small packet.xxx

I always make potato salad for barbecues. But as I make it from scratch, I think it has less mayo than the american one.

Home made potato salad is the best, I love putting in a lot of veggies and just the right amount of mayo for it to not be dry. Veggies help a lot though.

THey will love it. Just put enough flour so that the "crust" dries a bit at the oven. Then you add whatever you wish.

I created it when I once had leftover cold mashed potatoes. I added some flour and mixed it and molded it over aluminum foil and to the oven. After a while (when I though that flour was cooked) I added tomato sauce, cheese, tomato and dry oregano. I would have added other toppings, but vicente does not like mushrooms or olives and that was all I had.

I'm a carb-a-holic... potatoes, noodles, some rice... used to like it more than I do now. I guess its mostly noodles tho, and I love to twirl them, so I like long noodles.

I`m afraid we tend to grow carb-a-holic and sedentary at the same time. I ban some food from my house and then an evil friend brings it when he/she visits.

Pasta is so easy to make if you have some frozen sauces in your freezer. I also make twice the amount I need, so that I can have some on hand if unexpected company comes.

I WAS a potato person, but since those wonderful numbers in my cholesterol don't like me I had to take them out of my diet. We do more brown rice and multigrain pasta now. If I had to be defined by what I eat now....um I guess I'd be a rabbit because all I've had lately feels like I'm eating grass and twigs.

Mine is hereditary so have to watch my starches. Potato is a no no, red meat a no no, fried foods a no no, was even told to watch starchy veggies like corn and green beans. cheese...don't even get me started on cheese....

One of my grandchildren has genetic high cholesterol level. We cut out some goodies, but fortunatly he likes sushi and chicken wings. I know cheese has too much fat (that must be the reason why it is so good).

I didn`t know that potatoes were so bad for your cholesterol. That is, unless you eat then with mayo or fried. It is fat what is bad for cholesterol levels and not carb of any kind.

My mother always added potatoes to meat so that it went round 11 plates. Yes. That was the number then. I like potatoes too but I don't need to add them to the meat. My favourite however is sweet potatoes. Just minutes ago I sent my maid to buy some for us. I like them in any form even just boiled!

We are definitely what we eat. Potatoes are a staple food and they are not meant to be eaten with meat and veggies I think. I never get tired of potatoes, mashed with gravy or melted butter are my favorite. I like potatoes that are not so dry that they absorb all the butter before you have a chance to take two bites. Gravy is best for those kind.

I don`t know why you say that they are not meant to be eaten with meat. I like Sheperd`s pie and I often make boiled, baked or mashed potatoes as a side dish.

I like pandesal ( a well known bread in the Philippines). There are a lot of pastries and variety of bread in the market but still I like pandesal, for me it is unreplaceable. This is perfect for breakfast and snacks..I usually ate it with butter and coffee.

Lol, potato person? I love to discuss anything related to strawberry, maybe since I love strawberry. So that'll make me straberry person, huh? Great! And it'll be nice to be a strawberry person. Besides there are many benefits to strawberry like antioxidants. But I alos like potatos, though I hear we can't eat too many of it, maybe for diabetics, it's better to limit vegetables like potatoes.

I just bought about 8 kilos of strawberries. Froze some for smoothies, made jam, ate some. One thing will not keep the other away. Fortunatly I don`t have diabetes so I can eat both.

I think potatoes are a versatile food that can be filling and delicious. I like to eat potato round things that have onion in them. I sometimes eat hot chips with vinegar added to them. I love to eat a jacket potato with salad and nuts. I like to eat crispy potatoes. I eat a lot of rice, pasta and salad. I am a little bit of a potato person myself my dear friend. As you know I eat a vegan diet.

Hi Maxine, Potatoes as, as you say, very versalite. That`s why I prefer them to other foods that give us the carbs we need. There are lots and lots of ways I eat potatoes and I like them all.

My parents always used to joke that I'm a potato person. I never really though so but it must be some truth in it when somebody tells you that. I like potatoes because they are so simple yet they taste good with almost anything. I hate to be defined by what I eat but it still happens to me often because I don't eat meat so I'm already labeled as vegetarian.

I don`t mind to be defined in any way, as long as people say that it is a partial definition. Still, if you don`t eat meat, you`d better tell your friends. My husband invited once someone with his wife and I made an awesome roasted beef. The lady was vegetarian and I wasn`t told. She hid the meat under lettuce. Fortunatly I had made differentv salads.

I like to mix, as I often get tired if I eat the same food every day. Sometimes I love wonderful homemade mashed potatoes (with plenty of whole milk and butter) but yesterday I was perfectly happy with an omelette I made with some leftover rice, chives and cheese.

I eat lots of potatoes too. Its the main source of carbohydrates for us where I live. Well that plus bread. Potatoes and bread are the most common carbs here, but really any sort of traditional dish in Poland, involves some form of meat a salad plus potatoes. Its a staple food for most people here just like it is for you. Even though I eat it a lot, I personally like to diversify, if I have it too often then I just want to change to something else like pasta or rice, or I'll just lay off any carbs for a day or two and have salads and soups. If I have the same thing over and over again I just get sick of it.

I do as you do, but if asked about what I prefer, I would say potatoes. Wheat bread is a must in my country, and a main source of carbs for most of the population.
