Chocolate and Cinnamon

Chocolate and cinnamon make a great taste pairing. Many people refer to it as Mexican chocolate, as many dishes featuring this combination come to us from Central America. The Mayans were very fond of chocolate in its most raw form, cocoa nibs. They made a beverage they called choclatl. When they served this to the Spanish explorers, it was considered a significant discovery and the ingredients shipped back to the King of Spain for his enjoyment of this ancient, revitalizing concoction. The original choclatl was rather bitter. Today's chocolate aficionados prefer a sweeter taste. To make your own modern choclatl, add a little powdered cinnamon to your hot cocoa, which generally already has sugar added. Cinnamon gives the chocolate a bit of a boost. Cinnamon is also reported to be a blood cleanser, while chocolate balances hormones and lifts spirits with endorphines. So cinnamon and chocolate not only taste good together, they're good for you, as well.

Hello, Lauren & ajithlal, nice to see you both in this discussion on chocolate and cinnamon. Ajithlal, you need to take a chocolate pastry shop tour sometime and experience all these wonderful flavors, including chocolate and cinnamon. Lauren, check out the movie, Chocolat. It's great fun and covers the Mayan take on chocolate and cinnamon a little.

How I love chocolates! I wish I am able to take long walks and keep my wight under control; I have a cholestrol problem and have been advised to take long walks.Unfortunately the topical psoriasis on my feet prevents me from doing this.

I wish there was a chocolate and cinnamon solution for your topical psoriasis, kalav. Considering chocolate has medicinal qualities to at least release endorphines and balance hormones, maybe one day science will discover a psoriasis use for it, too. Wouldn't it be great to have doctor's orders to eat chocolate?

That reminds me of when I worked in the bakery department of one of the big supermarkets, we used to sell cinnamon whirls, and they were actually very popular! I don't like the taste of cinnamon myself. My favourite pastry was pain au chocolate, it's like a croissant, but with chocolate, now that is yummy, high in calories but oh so delicious, they weren't as popular as the cinnamon whirls though. Never tasted chocolate with cinnamon I have to admit.

Heya wolfie, old pal. Mmmm! I couldn't work in a bakery, I'd eat all the stock, especially pain au chocolate. Of course, the cinnamon whirls wouldn't get past me either. I guess if you tried to combine the two into one baked item, it would turn out as Mexican chocolate cinnamon rolls or something like that. For some reason, my stepmother's Red Hot Tea is coming to mind. I wonder what that would taste like stirred into hot chocolate, cafe mocha or a latte? Oh boy, now I'm wondering about chai tea and hot chocolate, iced. I must be hungry.

I'd love to try making a chocolate mousse with the chocolate candy bars mixed in, topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Yummy!

Hello again, ajithlal, thank you for contributing to this discussion on chocolate and cinnamon. People are welcome to give me chocolate at any time, and with cinnamon is great. I haven't had that much toffee, but I do enjoy it. I've never had Dairy Milk. I'll trust you that it's a good chocolate treat.
