As supervisors, we admit that there are different attitudes, upbringing, relationships, behaviors of employees in the work area. Most of the time clashing of opinions arises, misunderstanding between co-workers, unproductive during office hours. How do you cope with this kind of workers?

I believe that there is nothing that a good, professional and calm face to face talk cannot resolve. We can all agree to disagree, and we all accept that in the professional word, everyone will always have their own way of doing their job. But since all of us are there to work, and get paid for it, we are being mandated to follow the company's rules and regulations. As long as the rules are not being broken and work is done, then we can all professionally co-exist.

Yeah, just shrug it off your shoulder and be as receptive as possible.

Hi nita! Welcome to mylot! =) I have been a supervisor myself, and most of the time i am like another to these employees, trying to understand them, make them feel i am no antagonist in their working life so they can be open to me. In my years of handling people it only made sense that they are not always in a good relationship with their peers, and these things i do try to help them clear or settle. it is not comfortable to work and know that someone just might stab you in the back, right? I think it shall always depend on how the supervisors would accept that this is a reality and not everyone might get along all the time, but managing both can help eliminate further problems. If it is work related, then it is so much easier to resolve, but issues that are too personal, i would not even dare want to know if it is TOO personal for them to talk about it and i would just guide them to settle their differences and be professional.

Hi chiyosan, that is the kind of attitude expected from us most of the time but sometimes it is too taxing and erring to see this kind of attitude in your workplace. You can't believe that so called professional people behave indifferently.

It is important that each individiual is respected and if he errs or can be more productive he needs to be shown ways of how to change for the better. It is out of the question to simply shout at somebody, you are bound to get a negative reaction and nothing more. So it is best to talk things over, and whenever possible, it is recommended that similarly minded employees are grouped together so as to reduce clashes, and at the same time increase productivity.
