Why I would never buy any cake from anywhere....

Or I'd at least be cautious when buying a cake. I think though that I would prefer to make my own cake. A friend of mine posted an article up on facebook, where this guy bought a cake for his 2 year old son's birthday. When they had started cutting into the cake and I think after 4 cuts of cake they found a knife in the cake. This cake was bought from Wal Mart. (All the more reason why I don't buy food from Wal Mart, but something like this could happen anywhere.) Here is the link to the article http://news.yahoo.com/video/father-finds-knife-child-birthday-212817231.html?.tsrc=tmobustoday. What would you do in this situation and would it upset you if you found a knife in a cake you bought from anywhere.

Lol, I was reading yesterday that somebody found a mouse in a canned box of peas. I remembered that I found a small -- about 1 inch -- frog years ago, also in a box of peas, and I still eat peas -- though I did not ate the box with the frog --. I suppose this knife has not been put voluntarily in the cake : people baking for Walmart have to do hundreds of cakes every day, and a stupid accident like this can happen. I think I would have asked free birthday cakes for life for my son to Walmart if I had discovered a knife in one of them.

Hello Topffer, I´m glad to read your post. Well I´d prefer to find a knife rather than a frog. A frog? Two days back my smallest kid found a tiny rock in a package of smashed beans. It could had broken somebody´s teeth. But a frog? How? It was alive? It jumped out when you opened the box? Didn´t you scared? Blessings Topffer... dainy

A knife in the cake. That is a first! I can't imagine how that could happen. If this was to happen to me I would be marching right back to Walmart to show them the cake with the knife inside of it. I remember years ago my dad brought a cake from the bakery. As he cuts the first piece of cake we notice hair all over it as he puts the first peace on the plate. When we look inside the cake there is nothing but hair throughout the entire cake. It was disgusting to see and I don't remember what my parents did about the cake only thing I remember for sure my dad never brought anything from that bakery again.

I am not good at making cakes, but here most of the people buy theirs from Costco and there are good cakes at Safeway or Sobeys (that is a store in Canada). I would not buy a cake from Wal-Mart. It is mainly on the cheap and you may get it cheaper elsewhere. I would try to return it or try to get a discount. But it has to be on the day you bought it.

We take a chance with extra 'additives' anytime we buy something already made. There are mistakes that happen, things get left behind. I knife though? Yikes.

oh my gosh, that is just disturbing, that is one for he reason why i dont eat out that much, can you imagine if someone accidentally ate that small knife while eating the cake. There are so many simple cake recipes we can study from books and youtube have so many interesting cake baking channels that can give you ideas in baking, then I even seen recipes where you can bake cakes in a rice cooker or a crock pot.

Oh, terrible! I had a friend who worked for a fast food chain and said that they had a manager who saved money, any way possible. Once all these burgers fell on the floor, and he orders people to use them anyway. I mean, all those workers going in and out, the stuff on their shoes being tracked all over the floor, now went into the tummies of all the patrons. There are so many stories like that. I agree with your post.

Wow. That is worrying. But that's really rare, I think. Stuff like this could happen everywhere, because there could be mistakes everywhere. The only time I don't buy cakes from anywhere is the summer, because then, even in the hippest confectionaries the cakes can go wrong because of the temperature, and I've had so many stomach problems from them...

This kind of situation may be upsetting and alarming but like what topffer said, bakers of Walmart make many cakes and this is just like an accident. If this happen to me (I hope not) I will still buy cakes but not on the same store where I buy the cake with a thing that is not necessary to be there. Not all people can bake cakes and have the appliances for baking and I am one of that people so I'd rather buy.
