My wife and I were surprised to see and hear our 5-year-old son singing. We think he is suffering from a speech disorder or somewhat a delay in his speech development as he seems to have difficulty most of the time with words as compared with other kids at the same age. He was playing in a room and he was singing a popular local song, surprisingly rendering the tune quite right but the lyrics, should i say, were quite unfamiliar, lol! I happen to know the tune as it was really easy to catch up especially with the chorus or refrain part, and so, i started singing with him sort of encouragement or appreciation of what he was doing. I hummed in because i really don't know the lyrics, lol! Have you ever tried singing without the lyrics?

i think it's more than cute, lol! you've been a kid before and i think your parents might have been overwhelmed when you started talking and eventually singing too, lol! There's nothing more delightful for a parent like me to appreciate and even more encourage as this would really be more than an accomplishment with such pride and joy on my part.

very very very cute... for kids to hear them. I know how much joy that little act had brought you. Kids are little people without problems and don't care if they will look ridiculous or crazy or whatever. They are spontaneous and they are indeed contagious. but happy kids are brought about by happy parents too. You and your wife are happy parents that's the reason, why your kid is a happy kid.

I haven't tried singing without lyrics,, but I have sang songs that I was unsure of the lyrics. Looking back now its quite comical. Its even cuter when a child does it. My son is five too but he just shyly smiles when he doesn't know the words. He's more of a dancer than a singer

Without the lyrics, you would just hum the song. Unsure of lyrics, then just blur out what comes up your mind and blur it out, comical it may seem, but the fun part would really be lift your spirits up. You could imagine the joy it would bring if you would see your son just humming away with some or blurting out unknown lyrics from songs.

Yes, i'm really quite one of them, because like my son i love to sing especially when i'm in the mood to do so. The lyrics would really matter probably for those who fell in love with the lyrics of the songs, but not to the tune of the song, right?

do not you worry about the speech ability of your son. it is really normal for the boys to have a late development in speech rather than girls. i have a nephew who cannot talk very well and we thought that he is a late bloomer or something but he proved it wrong because he is in grade two and he excelled well in class and became an honor student. and i learned too from studies that girls could know how to speak early more than boys. about that singing sensationally even i do not know the lyrics, oh yes, i tried that plenty of times. more if you only hear that song and you like it and you want to sing even you do not know the lyrics. but i guess it is just okay hehe... and one time too my close friend chastise me as i sing the chorus always repeatedly and never to utter the other stanzas of that song. she told me, stop singing that song because i only sing the chorus part and nothing else. hehe so it is just alright as long as we enjoy singing it

I'm actually not quite worried, in fact, he's improving consistently everyday with the help his brothers and peers. The great part i think is him being able to tune into and appreciate music and much more with interest and initiative of remembering such songs just to reflect his appreciation of music is really a good developing trait as he is growing up.

It's a gift all right, because there are lots who loves to sing and you would wish them not to sing at all, lol! It has been a delight being able to see him at an early age to dwell or rather to have such talent, i think, and especially his interest in music which i would be quite an influencing factor in his life.

Your son may become a lectuer when he grows up. You never know. Keep encouraging him. Singing is a good way. I hum anytime anywhere. I love this habbit. I don't sing the lyrics cause lot of times I can't remember them and I don't choose which songs to hum. They just come to my mind from no where. Some are popular songs, but most of them are really old ones, even as old as my grandmother. I also like to change lyrics to the words I think are funny. My husband often laughs a lot when he hears me do it.

Yes, changing or having different lyrics especially in a song that's quite familiar could really make some people laugh, that's why my son caught our attention. At his age, it's quite overwhelming to see him humming the tune even without the lyrics as I know he could really identify the wonders of music and appreciating it quite enough.

i try singing without the lyrics all the time. i am not a lyrics person. the thing i like about music most is the music, itself....the instrumental. i have to listen to a song a good few hundred times to catch the lyrics.

Yes, the groove, the beat, the tempo really trigger the mood within us, so i think when we "feel" it, the lyrics could be impromptu, blurting out anything that would somehow rhyme with the music, lol! Thanks for the response.

I did sing some songs without knowing the lyrics. I would either hum the song or just put some words into fit and sing it. Just like the Indian songs my roommate had been playing, I have no idea what it means but sometimes there are good tunes so I would hum along. By the way, if your son have problem with speaking disorder, it would better for you to bring him to see related doctors to identify what type of speaking disorder he has. I heard that music and songs can help them in learning to speak and write though.

Sometimes I do, especially if it's a song that I haven't heard before. I would usually know the lyrics but not the rest of the song. If that happens, I just let the song play out until it comes to the part that I know and then I sing along. Or in the absence of a radio playing that song, I would just keep on singing the chorus over and over again.

That's the good part - chorus - it really makes it easier to identify the song, lol. I guess partly knowing a song in terms of lyrics is great enough, but the best part should always be able to get the tune or the rhythm, and as my son did his very well, the lyrics doesnt matter i think for the fun of it.
