My sister had dementia. We had a woman take care of her so that part waa easy on us. Actually, my sister wasn't severly affected, but bad enougn to have someone take care of her. She c ould not dress herself because she kept putting on new poanties on bcuas eshe forgot sshe already had panties on. When she got a phone call, she did not remember who called. In fact, one day, a salesman called and becuase of her problem she ordeered from him een thogh e=she did nto need what she ordered. thei salesman called often because he knew that she wpoiuld accept his offer. I could go on and on about how her dementia affected her, but she seemed like a happy child. I was glad that she still was able to recognize me. Has anyone had a family member or a friend with Alzheimer or Dementia?

So you are obviously familiar with it. I think the family suffer more than the patient. Am I correct?

Hi, I feel very sad for your sister. You are very nice that you care about her. My wife's aunty had alzeimer. She is no more. She had alzeimer in old age. My wife's uncle had taken care of her till the end. One woman was there to take care of her. But uncle was always behave with her very lovingly. It was very difficult for him handle the situations. the person having alzeimer can remember the old things in their life but they forget the latest things. Try to keep your sister happy. Don't be anger with her. Take care.

Thanks you for your caring wishes. I hope that some day there will be a cure for Alzheimer or even a way of preventing it from occuring.

I hope she is ok now, It is really horrible someone would have anything like that. It is also very pathetic how the sales man would call up and take advantage of her sickness. It is a one cruel world. :(

i don't know what it is like to deal with either, but i suffer from mental illness myself. i know that it is not easy for the person suffering with it, nor is it for the family. she is lucky to have the love and support of you and the rest of her family. just keep loving, supporting, and being there for her.

Thank youfor your thoughtful wishes. I'm sorry to hear about your mental illness. I'm assuming that you are getting help. Are you on any type of medication? I have worked with kids who have had various types of behavior disorders.

My late maternal grandmother had it. The last time I visited her, she did not recognize me. She thought that I was my cousin's girlfriend. But when I told her that it was me, she cried. She said that she remembered me when I was a baby. She told me how cute I was with those rosy cheeks (and I was like, MOrE, more)I was shocked really coz she did not remember all those times that she was with us. She was always visiting us in the city especially if she has to attend seminars. She was a teacher then. She would often send me a birthday cake that she herself made.

this is dementia. I am glad that my elder sisters are still very active at their age. One sister plays a lot. It is a good way to ease of dementia. I am telling them to write or comment something in the FB if they found it interesting. in that manner they will still use their brain. Scary.. is dementia hereditary?
