If you are fond of watching tv shows, I am pretty sure that you notice that almost all of them have the same story line or plot. It seems difficult to find a unique type of shows on tv. Reality shows, games, crime stories and all others seems to follow what is on trend, each one joining the band wagon. There are just a lot to choose from to fill up your time. It is just you are going to pick what you think gives you the best delivery. There is nothing wrong with this because it is the televiewers who actually benefit from wide variety of choices. But of course it is much better to see something good and new on television once you turn your channels on.

Yeah, I do see that. Especially rival TV channels in my country, they do almost the exact same kind of shows just to fight for audience... star cooking showdown-check. crime stories with amateur actors-check. Singing talent searcher show-check. Idioitc daily soap opera-check. Gah. But the same with the TV shows and series that come from the US to my channel, too. Most of the investigation shows have the same concepts and plotlines and even jokes and dialogues, just with different characters. Most of the bridal shows are similar, too. The now popular talent searcher shows are similar, too (both X Factor and Voice have 4 jury members who race against each other in a way)...

That happens anywhere in the world, I think. When a particular new show becomes a hit, expect that there would be others following the trend and the battle begins!

I think TV AND movies tend to copy other ideas. For example there's been a run of movies based on comic book super heroes. There are original shows, however, how else would you have something to copy? CSI comes to mind. Charlie Jade was somewhat of an original show whose premise might have been copied in part by Fringe. The Following strikes me as an original show as are Grimm and Once Upon a Time.
