Football, Football and More Football...

Now when I talk FOOTBALL I am not talking about the weird game they play in America... We play that in the UK - Without helmets - We call it Rugby. No when I talk about Football, I mean the beautiful game - FUTBOL, FUTBAL, LE FOOT or even that god awful SOCCER Football - My family that as much as I love them they come a long way behind WIGAN ATHLETIC in terms of love and affection. I first watched WIGAN when I was 7 years old - It was a cold night in October and my Dad took me - It was GREAT!!! First time I had ever seen a Match live First time I had ever had a HotDog First time I had heard men swear First time I saw a pitch invasion First time I saw a police horse First time I saw my Uncle Keith arrested.... wasn't to be the last either. When I first followed them, They were a non-league team, outside the fringes of professional football. Over the years they have moved up the leagues, upset a few bigger clubs and now reside in the Premier league - The richest league in the WORLD!!! I will be honest - We have been punching above our weight ever since we got there and we are usually the favourites to be relegated year on year... Still there though. Yesterday we hammered Everton to go into the SEMI FINAL of the FA CUP - The furthest my little club have progressed. One more win and we will be in the most famous cup final of club football. You have come a long boys. I have never been tempted to follow the Famous or bigger clubs. If they get relegated, I will always follow them. I actually don't care if no one comments. I could sit in an empty room alone and spend a wonderful few hours talking about WAFC!!! Interesting Trivia - Most famous Wigan Athletic fan... After me obviously - Mikhail Gorbachev

That sounds like fun Maria... Our scouts have been sniffing around the Mexican league - get more for your money. We did buy Hugo Rodallega from Necaxa a few years ago. I know they are interested in a fella called De Nigris from Monterrey

He started the season well at United, he seems to have gone a little quiet to be honest since Christmas.

Shame you don't have the same fan base as Bradley Wiggins' favourite team, the Wigan Warriors. If you get to Wembley you won't take more than 25,000 (that's the Final I'm talking about, it'll be even less for the semi, something I don't agree with..potentially playing twice at Wembley). Will you be going? Oh, and will the so-called die-hard fans carry on going if you go down into the Championship? Thought not! Oh, and before you have a go, that's happened to Blackpool. The armchair fans that came out of the woodwork to go to games whilst in the Premiership are no longer around. Pray from now until the end of the season that doesn't happen to Wigan. Thank God they only built that sh*tty temporary stand. Wise decision as it turned out! OYSTON OUT! OYSTON OUT! (Karl Oyston is DYING to build houses on Bloomfield Road)! Oh, and don't get me started on the mighty Blues (Carlisle United). ABBOTT OUT! ABBOTT OUT!

Sorry, I didn't realise you don't live in the area anymore. We don't go to games either. We used to be Carlisle United season ticket holders and I'm glad I met John when it was (dare I say it) exciting being a Carlisle fan. I even enjoyed the Conference as away fans LOVED Carlisle, it was like they were in the Premiership coming to our ground! Nothing like non-league football to bring you back down to earth. However, at the other end of the scale, it was a very sad day indeed when Blackpool got relegated back into the Championship as I doubt they will get out of it for a long time. Have to face facts. A team with no cash will go down eventually. Mum told me about the Bundesliga the other day. A guy on the regional news visited one of their grounds. It's a totally different experience, cheap, free travel included in the ticket and NO club over in Germany is in debt. I blame Sky telly money for the state of our beautiful game and I cannot get excited about the Premier League as much as I used to, as it's all about money. It dominates everything. Even in the lower leagues there is no loyalty from the players anymore and I'm not impressed by how many foreigners have so-called 'graced' the game as the likes of Adebbayor is a DISgrace to the game with his antics. He is a Big Girl's Blouse, make no mistake as are so many others. They go where the money is, that type of thing, although the English players are influenced by them..which isn't good in itself. I do love Roy 'Woy' Hodgson though as he seems sincere to me and is trying to encourage his players to 'do good.' If they listen to him they'll go far, I'm sure of that, rather like the boys at Barcelona. It's in their DNA to do good. That's so true about BOTH Blackpool and Carlisle grounds, although Carlisle does have a better pitch lol. A few years ago I was actually in the away end at Bloomfield Road when Carlisle played (Boxing Day) and the temporary stand wasn't built then so it was way worse than it is now. All these so-called 'real men' were telling me how bloody freezing it was and I said the usual Blackpool comment, 'Stop being so soft, it's the lovely sea air, you'll get used to it!' Since moving to Carlisle in June 2005 I've noticed how the air is worse here than it is in Blackpool. After all, Victorians used to flock to Blackpool at weekends from industrial Towns in order to breathe in that same sea air and I do think there is something to it, I genuinely do. I miss the sea as it doesn't take long to get there from Mum's house..just a little bus ride or walking it in good weather. If John wasn't in such a niche job in printing (Reeds is probably the biggest in the North of England in terms of contracts they win) I reckon we would've ended up in Blackpool, as the houses are cheaper for a start. Oh well, I've made me bed..gotta lie in it!

Growing up in Wigan, it was either Rugby or Football - never both. 1500 of us would regularly attend the football, with close to 30000 attending the rugby. My Gran was a rugby fan and she would drag me and my brothers along - "How can yer like rugby if yer from WIGGIN" she would say. they will crawl out of the woodwork for Wembly tickets - would not surprise me if they took 35, 40000 to Wembley. I don't go as often as I would like too - Family, work, cost and the fact that I no longer live in Wigan sees to that. I remember the lower leagues and away trips to cold football grounds like Blackpool and Carlisle - Even in May, BLOODY FREEZING

Despite the game having such a huge popularity in England, it has never really held much interest for me. I do not mind watching a few games during the World Cup, but the regular leagues are something I never follow. Nevertheless, I am impressed that Wigan Athletic have got so far in the Cup. Wigan is far more famous for it's rugby team. At least you have the loyalty to follow your local club, which is the way that sport should be approached. Too many people simply choose a wealthy club to support and ignore their home team.

Yes, We have done well this season in the cup - Not since the legendary MATHIAS years have we had such a good cup run. The following of Wigan Rugby is dwindling these days, not the draw it used to be. I love my club, with a genuine passion - Every true Wigan fan will admit that we are lucky to be were we are. Whatever the league, I will always support. Interesting fact - Wigan are one of the only teams in the whole country to operate at a profit.

well I am glad that you love the game and I never judge a person for what they like but sadly I am not a person who loves sports just not into wasting time
