If we are still an American colony most likely we are going to be republicans.

Lets have a what if,Alternate history discussion, In an alternate dimension somewhere, Philippines is still an American colony. In that world, what do you think will be the political party Filipinos will support? It makes me think what will be the political standing of Filipinos if we are still a commonwealth of the US. Most Filipinos are conservative and religious and with that can see that if we are part of the US, Based on how Filipinos thinks at this moment majority of Filipinos would be Republicans. but there is also a chance that Filipinos might have been democrats, you know our culture might have changed if we are under their rule.

I reckon that the filipino people would have thrown the US out by now. They are not, after all, averse to a little revolution when they don't like a leader. It is the removal of Estrada that makes me think that. I was looking at this, http://www.philstar.com/headlines/89502/sc-people%C3%A3%C2%A2%C3%A2%E2%80%9A%C2%AC%C3%A2%E2%80%9E%C2%A2s-welfare-supreme-law which says that the courts upheld the removal of estrada as they took the view "that the welfare of the people is the supreme law." A population can be conservative and religious it doesn't mean they like being exploited, even the most conservative people can get annoyed when they feel that their economic needs are not being met. So I think they may be more inclined to be democrats than republicans, as the current republican party in the us, and the tory party in the uk aren't really conservatives, they are more right wing radicals, who are libertarians and individualists. Whereas I suspect in the philippines these is probably a more collectivist view of society, and the good of the people as a whole, rather than rampant individualism. That's just guessing, so feel free to tell me I am wrong.

I think people are now thinking this way because of the situation of the government, politics and how it affects people. but they don't realize the value of the freedom they created once the governmetn they desire. the problem is that oligarchs use the poor to keep themselves in power and not to mention lack of education is keeping part of another collective view of a society we called "band wagon". . well, we are going into the process of individualism, otherwise we won't have 8 presidential candidates last 2010 running for the post.

Politicians are are flip flopping political parties, also majority of Political parties are conservative. Thats the reason we are the only country on earth where there is no divorce.

That's interesting. The politics of the philippines seems not to be based on long lasting political parties, hopefully that will develop over time, as though political parties can be annoying it gives a good guide to what you are voting for, whereas the presidential elections seem to be more about personalities than policy.

Really? I'd be a moderate and perhaps, leaning more towards the liberals. then we'll have a liberal and conservative media and I think we're gonna debate over and over about how government plays into our lives. Of course, anything the US ah will be incorporated in our own. And finally, perhps,I could master an American accent or at least understand accents in America.

I have an American accent and I didnt even grew up in America, I think the Filipino accent will still dominate, as Native Hawaiians, Samoans ,Chamoros and Puerto Ricans still have their own accent as they were not mainland. almost every region of the US have their own accents.

Hello CaptainAlbert, there is a huge chance that we might be a huge chunk of republican support compare to other states out there. sure, there might be some democrats but as a largely conservative country can make the republican Presidents more dominant in years and any people from Asia and middle east can easily migrate to the US via tawi tawi or boat.

lol about the Tawi Tawi comment, I think if we are still a colony, we would have been a tourist and agricultural region. anyway according to a survey in the US to the Filipino Americans, 27 % are republicans, 20 % are democrats while 45% is none Partisan.

Nope, I beg to disagree my friend, we had been divisive even before the American colonization, one group always favors on and one group favors or tend to form another group, The " Magdalo" and the " Magdiwang" faction of the KKK during the Spanish revolution is a perfect example. Sorry to say this but we especially our politicians would support where they would benefit the most, Republicans, Democrats or whatever, where there is money, that is where they are

some countries will be aghast with how some of our politicians conduct politics in our country, starting from dynasties to simply eliminating your political opponent by liquidation or hurling a grenade in a "meeting de avance" as was the case at Plaza Miranda when i was a young boy, just wondering CAW, would either Democrats or Republicans invite us in? You could be right too that we will veer towards the more conservative , but if we stayed longer with them, there is also a chance for our values to have changed towards the more liberal.
