Scary nightmares

This has been going on for most of my life but as I get older, the nightmares I have are getting worse. It is to the point where I am afraid to go to sleep. My most recent nightmare was two nights ago. In my nightmare I was laying down attempting to go to sleep when a black veil started covering my face beginning at the top of my head. As it was decending, what it already covered felt numb. I tried calling for someone to help me but nothing came out. My mouth, my lips, my tongue and my throat were all numb and I couldnt feel anything. In my nightmare I remember feeling terrified that I was dying. I jolted awake and my heart was pounding. In my teenage years my nightmares were very gruesome and bloody. I never watched horror movies because I was a chicken (still am) and could never handle them (still cant) so it was never caused by anything I watched. My mother had taken me to talk to a psychiatrist at that time, who's only response was "mmhmm" and sent me on my way. Over the years they have gotten scarier and now I wake up with enormous headaches because I clench my jaw so tight in my sleep. It's also to the point where I physcially feel the effects from my nightmares. For example, I had a dream that someone was shooting at me and only one of bullets hit me in the middle of my chest. I woke up with a painful chest pressure that lasted throughout the next morning. After 30 years of going through this, I need some peace of mind.

Did you ever hear of a 'dreamcatcher'? They are made by American Indians, and are believed to filter out the bad dreams when hung over your bed. I know it is just a ledgend, but, when I was working in a mental health facility, I had a client who had bad nightmares. I suggested he try and dreamcatcher, and he came later thanked me for helping him chase the bad dreams away. Also, when I grandson was younger, be had bad dreams. We got him a dreamcatcher, and he still uses it to this day. I don't know if it really works or if it's the power of suggestion, but either way, why don't you give it a try. I'm sure you can find them online to purchase.

You know what, I never thought of getting a dreamcatcher! That is a great idea and worth a shot. I will try anything at this point. Thank you so much for the suggestion.

Also, have someone sleep with you in your room. Not just anyone, but someone who is a light sleeper so that he or she will know what's going in reality when you have a bad dream.

Oh my that was really a bad dream. I hope you won't sleep alone in your room. Have someone sleep with you so that in if you'll have another dream, someone will look after you. Pray before sleeping. I hope you'll get rid of those bad dreams of yours.

I had the same experience before but for a short period of time only. It happened when I was living alone in a room I rented. Before, we're actually two living in that room, my friend and I, but she left when transferred to another place. I remember that I started having nightmares when she left and my schedule was changed. I used to work from 10 in the evening until 2 pm the next day but during those times that I was experiencing having nightmares, I only work for 8 hours so I have more time staying at home and sleeping. But it happened that I started having this nightmares. I will no longer mention my exact nightmares because it might scare you I do not want to do that. What I did was I tried moving my bed in a different position. I also tried leaving the lights on. I avoid sleeping at night and just sleep when the sun rises. But actually, none of them really works. Try praying. Pray hard it works. Avoid watching scary movies. Check your things because you may have something in your room that causes it.

It is a depression and you must consult a doctor a neurology can be of great help. Depression are usually common to people who are well in off in life without too much experience on life hardship then having one in the middle or if not severe hardship in life with too much love but can do nothing even to her very own self
