scrap coins

Ethiopia

Hi all I have been collecting Ethiopian coins since 2008 as collectibles. Now when I decided to sell them to coin collector I found that they are worthless. So again I have decided to sell them as scrap brass.( most of them are now used as legal tender here but I don't want to go to the bang and exchange them because I have spent a lot of time collecting them which means that what the banks will give me in exchange is next to none when it is compared to the time and energy I spent collecting the coins and that is why I have decided to sell them as scrap metal). So can any one here point me where I can sell them for profit?Thank you for your response in advance

I would keep them, at least all those not worn as a worn coin does not interest a collector. Coins have a value when they are old and demonetized. It is just a matter of time. If they are still used in Ethiopia, it is perhaps not allowed to sell them as scrap brass in Ethiopia. You should read the laws first to see if it is authorized.

Topffer, Thank you for response but why should I read the law?Is it illegal to sell coins? How about if I sell them to some one else living in other country so that he/she can do what ever with it( whether he/she buy the coins as collectibles or as scrap metals and then melt the coins )?

Hi ! if i were you , i won't sell it. It is a collector's item . I will keep it , financial value maybe less , but behind those financial values , the sentimental values which is very precious and priceless ! Keep it , in the future you would be able to say " thanks God , it's worth keeping ! "

Hi all , I want to make clear something for you.I am collecting coins not as a hobby but as a coin dealer to sell them later hoping that I will get a good return for my investment.

if i were you, i would keep them as your personal collections. they may be not a worth to everyone, but for you, they may be something. this differentiates the collectors from investors. if you were truly collectors, you would not be dissuaded by the monetary value of your hobby or collection. it is more for your self- satisfaction and achievement.

Ethiopian economy is not good so their currency is of little value but the time and effort you afforded is something, if I were you, I'll just keep it for the time being for anyway it is a coin it will remain with value. Ethiopia is a rich country but not fully develop that currency may worth a pounds for tomorrow.

that is fine, i would have not sell them those are our hobies that we do and that is more than just a work. in my opinion you should keep them as long as you can. i would have done that. and would have passed it to generations. Sounds strange but it is a good way to go at it.
