Probably a lot of you know Renaldo Balkman as a New York Knicks Player. But an incident happened in the Philippine Basketball Association in the Philippines that lead to suspension and lifetime in the PBA. He was not happy at all after losing a game that he approached referees with a temper, pushing teammates and coaches, and in the process choking his own teammate. http://ph.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/judgmentcall/choking-one-own-neck-092151128.html Was the decision for his actions fair?

This doesnt surprise me, he was a real hot head in the nba. Might be why he left it.

Actually in the nba, I never observed him to be hot headed or he just didn't have playing time in the nba.

I think, yes, because as the sports analyst said, He is a foreigner and he doesn't have the right to harm Filipinos. It was being watched all over the world and Filipinos deserves to be respected.

I think what we saw was disrespect towards Filipinos.

Hello Jvincent, I don't think what he did deserve a lesser punishment, don't know if that's less punishable in other countries. but in the Philippines, it can be truly disrespectful to any one and most specially to our country when a foreigner blows off and starts disrespecting every one in the court and being watch through out the nation. while most of us trying to get the respect from other countries this one disregard ours, in our own land. what he did wasn't fit for a role model and therefore, he should be banned.

Yeah. It was a big big punishment. I wished it was just to ban him from the league. That's already enough. But he is entitled to pay still a large amount of money.

I do think that he just deserves to be banned. With the temper that he showed, what kind of sportsmanship does he know? It is plain stupid of him to attack those referees after the decision has been made. Besides, if he would have any bad feeling about loosing the game, he should have taken it as a challenge to give a better performance on the next game.

In the video, it really showed disrespect to Filipino people. Although I know Balkman is somehow has a good side in him but the incident was too violent that it is fair to give him that kind of sanction.

The decision was fair enough since he really hurt someone which is wrong. He is really quite hot temper and should learn from his action. Basketball is a sport so sportmanship should alwas be there and hot tempered people should not involve into any sports cause it may lead into something bad.

In the Philippines, basketball is a sport of sportmanship and we exercise integrity and that's why he is given that kind of punishment.

i've never heard of a teammate choking another teammate in pro sports even though wild things can happen in the heat of competition. talk about a dysfunctional team. i can't think of a worse way for a sports team to lose then like that.

Sure, I think he deserves the suspension, though I suspect he might not have received such a lifetime suspension in some other leagues. I had no idea Balkman was playing in the Philippines now, but this incident is definitely something I could see happening in the NBA. It brings to mind Mark Davis bodyslamming Shawn Bradley and Ron Artest fighting with fans in the stands. So I don't really think this is in and of itself disrespectful of Filipinos as others are saying here; these kind of violent sports brawls happen all over the world.

i think that the judgement and decision to ban balkman in the pba is fair. what balkman did to his teammates, referees, and coaches are unacceptable as a professional player. it is an utter disregard to the rules, sensibilities, professionalism of the sports and the league. i think this ban will serve him right. i hope he is able to reflect his own actions, although he already apologized for them.

Yeah. I don't think he is that bad of a person. It was just because of overwhelming emotions that he did that. There's no other way but to face the punishment for what he did. Even though it was a hard punishment, I hope he can learn from that and be better.

First of all, his actions during the game was really inexcusable. It only shows that he really has an attitude problem. I mean, he's appealing for really a no-foul. It was only all about frustration seeing their winning streak come to an end against the Alaska Aces. Harassing the referees one by one and then pushing the assistant coach away and choking his own teammate, are you kidding me? I have seen many brawls and altercations in the NBA but not like this one. He definitely deserves it. Those could be the reasons why he was waived by the Knicks and not getting any contract offers from NBA teams.

It's unfortunate because he was a great import, very mobile and athletic. It was just one game and they had a five game winning streak before that. He really choked the guy.
