Hoping for a good pope

I flick the remote and almost all news channels on cable are tuning into the Vatican's chimney and as to who will be the next pope, the sole guide to 1.2 billion Catholics in the world. Included among the top contenders is 55-year-old Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle who's a fellow Filipino. Now, I'm not going to brag about another Filipino being chosen as another potential famous figure. Most Filipinos tend to be over reacting about this sort of thing but I am to say that I'm proud to be Catholic, although there was once upon a time in my life when I actually considered converting to another Christian sect. Just like every other Catholic, I'm hoping for a better replacement for the papal position. Despite the controversies and all the non-Catholic and non-Christian's hatred of my religion, which is ridiculous because this hatred seem to stem from what the Catholic church did in the past instead of looking into the good deeds of the present, I still try to understand more of what Catholicism is about. Indeed, I just can't change into another religion just because I'm venturing into a storm in my life. Hopefully, whoever is chosen will be like Pope John Paul II who's very popular among the young Catholics. I can still recall the many young people who attended his funeral.

When Pope John Paul II passed away I was really sad and I thought that no other Pope could be as good as him. He is a saint after all. Pope Benedict did not have the charisma of John Paul, but when I saw the new Pope Francis I thought he could be such a person. He seems very humble and although he seems shy he does have charisma and in my opinion he is bound to attract many catholics to him and the church. I made some research about him and I found out several things which emphasize this humility. May he inspire many with his good natured way. May God bless Him.

I don't know how can i describe Pop John Paul II to be that charismatic, because from my youth I've known him to be just simply popular among the crowd. most specially when he visited my country the Philippines. he was good pope while it lasted, but the true support of the church must also come from it's people. have anice day

I was watching the whole thing on the Internet, too, although I don't believe in any religions., However, it's important to have a good pope... I really repected and like Pope John Paul II, for example. Also, a representative of my country, Hungary, Péter Erdo (or Erdo Péter, in the Hungarian order) was among the top contenders, too... and of course, local TV channels exaggareted his chances way too much. Us Hungarians can be really sensitive and overreacting... on the Internet channel, where I was watching, it was us Hungarians who wrote most comments about how we want our candidate. I mean, I was secretly hoping for him, but the most important thing is to have a good pope... and crying and whining if our favorite isn't becoming pope isn't necessarily true Catholic behaviour, as I see it as an agnostic.

oh, and about the choice made: as I think about it, it was high time that they chose someone outside of Europe, especially from South America.

Hello maxen, a lot of people were expecting some changes and reforms in the catholic church, I think no one was expecting some one like him. but some believed that he's no different because he doesn't smile that much but then he seemed to be a very simple person that doesn't focus much on the riches, though people are already happy about it, the challenge is out there and the one billion catholics will be monitoring his progress

It's one of the biggest religion which exists based on certain principles and faiths. Yes, of course, there need a periodic leader and the procedure to select a suitable person in that place is always rquire an experienced person with all pre-requisites. There may be difference of opinion among within and outside. One prayers is that the election should be free from demographic thoughts, but it should go to a person who really deserive in all respects, whoever it may be. Being a non-catholic and impartial to all religions in the world, being a neutral religious though is much happier than holding a specific religion on hand. It is my experience and it is real fact that majority of the people's living is depend on various religion and for a well being of the common society, religion plays a vital role and it is my thought anyone can be a relegious leader, but the decision is based on various pre-requisites, whoever it may be.
