Kathryn came home from school today with a very important flier that was informing us that she had a piece of art that is being featured in the District Art Show this year. This is something where only a hand full of pieces are selected by the art teachers at each school each year. So I'm really proud of her for this and I can't wait to go to the art show later this week. In addition to this, her homeroom teacher sent her home with a note to me telling me that I should apply for her to go to the district school for creative and performing arts because the teacher feels she is one of the most talented writers that she's ever had the experience of teaching. And of course there is also the fact that Kathryn was formally identified as being academically gifted going into fourth grade. I know that this child is really going to go great places in her life. When it comes to your children are you just filled with pride for their accomplishments? What is the most recent thing that you've heard about your child that has really made you proud of them?

Congratulations on having such a talented and gifted daughter! I'll surely be proud if my daughter is talented as well. But since she's only 1 year old, her everyday progress and improvements are what makes me proud as a mom. And the fact that I was able to witness those developments firsthand makes me even prouder :)

I know what you mean about being able to witness those accomplishments firsthand. I've been blessed to be able to be a stay at home parent to my children and I wouldn't trade that experience for any amount of money in the world.

It's the best feeling and surely no amount of money can repay that :)

Well, my child is an adult now, however that doesn't mean I'm not proud of his accomplishments. He owns his own business and has for several years now and I am so proud of him for becoming the person he is. Other than myself no one believed in him. Just goes to show what a mother's love and encouragement can do! Always encourage your child and let them know that they can be and do whatever they set out to do.

just read the other post, it seems no one else has anything to share about their children, what a shame that they didn't read your question: anyone else want to share about their children's accomplishments.

I've noticed that as well. It seems like there are some people that don't read everything that is written. That is awesome that your son has been able to accomplish everything that he has mainly because he's always had your support.

Wow you must be one proud parent. It's good that you encourage her passion. It will allow her to be independent. She will also improve over time. Congratulations on that!

She has been improving with those gifts that she has from the time that she started practicing them. I will always encourage her so that she will be able to reach her fullest potential in life.

You are so justified in your pride of her. She sounds like an amazing child and I am sure that she will really go places and probably apply for and get a full scholarship to a great college. My twins did very well at school last term. Their total average was 92.5% so I am so proud of them. This terms I have yet to receive their reports but their teqacher said that they both did well. Cpngratulations to her and you too

I forgot to add that being good in the Arts indicate a fully rounded personality. |This is such a great achievement for a little girl. Give her a big hug from an old lady in Jamaica

How about instead of telling her that it is a big hug from an old lady in Jamaica I'll tell her that it is a hug from her other grandma in Jamaica. That is great that the twins are doing really well in school as well. I know that you have to be proud of them that they are doing so well with everything else that is going on in their lives.

That's awesome, yay for Kathryn! My daughter is very artistic too . . . she is quite advanced with drawing for her age (she's in 2nd grade now). Every teacher she's had told me how blown away they are with her artwork . . . in her last parent/teacher conference, the teacher's comment about her art was "OMG!" - hee hee. The other weekend we went to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and there was a kids workshop there, but it was already full. But the director of the workshop gave my daughter paper, a clipboard and pencil. My daughter went to an 18th century Korean vase piece which had a dragon on it, and she stood there and drew it for about a half hour. People were coming up to her, watched her with their ohhs and ahhs, and asked her a bunch of questions (I stood like 10 feet away) . . . and then they would come to me and tell me what an amazing artist she was. It was her moment, and I guess mine too - oh I was so proud of her!!! She showed the director her drawing and she was so wowed by it too that she brought my daughter into the workshop to show all the fellow employees!! My daughter's reaction was "I think I'm going to be on the news" - ha ha.

That sounds like a wonderful experience that your daughter had. Unfortunately we don't really have any art museums in our area so that is something that Kathryn hasn't had the opportunity to experience. However we are hoping to be able to travel a little bit more in the future and hopefully those trips will take us to an art museum.

Congratulations to Kathryn! Like you, I beam with pride too when my kids do great either at school or whatever activities they are in to. Aside from my 6-year old getting his blue belt in tae kwon do, he was also recently picked to read in a school-wide speech arts program. He reads so well that he was the only one picked from the first graders.

wow i cant wait to meet her when she comes with you all. is she coming to i hope so. shes just wonderful. when she becomes famous i can say i met her this us awsome. my oldest here showed all that potential. but got a girl pregnant and ended up marrying to young and really messed up his life. he was also a gifted child and they wanted to move him forward in grades, yet i messed up and didnt let him skip because he didnt want to do it. that was likely my first mistake. so if she wants to move on go with it.

If they give us that kind of an offer, that would be something that I would allow for her. However, that hasn't been an issue that has been brought up yet, her teachers just seem to think that she would do really well in the school for creative and performing arts. And yes, she most definitely be coming with us when we come to visit. She is the one that always talks about going back to Arizona the most.

That is wonderful that Kathryn is doing so well in school and that she has a piece of art work in the art show. I am also glad that Katheryn loves art because most schools do not teach these courses. I think it is great that your daughter has talent and hope that she gets into the school that will help her further develop her talents. I do not have any children, but Kathyrn is a remarkable child.

She really is a remarkable child. My children are lucky in that they do get the arts in their school. They actually only spend an hour a week of classroom time in art, music and physical education. However, she also chooses to be a part of the art club because she enjoys art so much.

Well, congrats for your wonderful child. And perhaps I'd consider the request from her homeroom teacher. You have an artist in your family. I hope you enjoy the art show. I have no childs, but I'm proud from my nephews.

I am definitely considering the suggestion from her homeroom teacher. Unfortunately we can't do the application for next year, but we will do it for when she is going into sixth grade. I also think that will be better anyway because it won't be as much upheval for her.

She is gifted in more ways than one and it just amazes me. I can't even draw a person that looks remotely human and for her there is really nothing that she can't draw (she gets that from her father). Now the writing thing, I know that comes from me because I've been a writer all my life. Her general intelligence, that is just some kind of a freak of nature.
