On the Jeep with P1000

Philippines
March 17, 2013 11:06am CST
Just this afternoon, I was riding the jeepney and this lady ask the jeepney to stop and handed a P1000 bill to the poor driver. Well of course, most driver would not have any amount to change that lady considering that her fare was only P20. My blood really boiled like hell and wanted to slap that lady . It just pisses me off that some people would not considering having some coins to be paid in jeepneys. Well, the driver just let her go down without any fare. What do you think?

I can understand how you feel. And it is such crazy for that lady to be handing that large bill in a public transport! What was she thinking?

Scammers are just everywhere nowadays. And Kenshin might be true with what he has said. Coz even if the driver had earned a lot during that day, still he would be needing enough change for other passengers. And that woman is crazy thinking that sh can pay in large bills.

Fake money you mean? I would spot it from a hundred meters away, she better be good or the next stop is at the next police station.

We will never know, but If you will be asking me, I would say that lady she is really inconsiderate or simply wants some to have change for her money or perhaps a modus.

Maybe she has no money other than 1000,but I think she must tired to have smaller bill before riding the riding the jeep.

Justlike what i have said before that she had been irresponsible commuter and probably she made it plan for herself that she will get away with it. ihope some one would have taken a picture of this woman and had her reported to the media. i feel sad for the driver but i know a lot of passengers there that might have symphetized with him

One friend of mine also told me that he had this similar situation. Perhaps she might not have any other money, but she should have told the driver even before arriving at her destination. The thing that really pissed me was that she informed the driver upon arriving at her destination already.

Hello Kenshin, what an idiot and completely inconsiderate woman! this completely shows how irresponsible a commuter who is supposed to be responsible in bringing her own lesser bill! i bet a lot of passengers went mad because of that. how can some one be so inconsiderate? so what happened then? i can't help but get mad at this sitation

Even me, if I was really a goon, I would really slap that woman's face. The driver just let her go down without any fare at all. Damn that woman

I paid a thousand to a jeepney driver one time but it is until the terminal so there was more chance that I got my change. I also had paid a tricycle driver 1000 but amazingly he had enough money to give my change. I think it is 994.

Good for you then and the driver too because he had still time to look for change. But in this case, the woman already arrived at her destination and it would be inconvenient for other passengers to wait until the driver obtain some change.

I think the driver is more pissed and irritated more than the driver :)

I know some even intentionally do that even in the early morning jeepney ride. They do that because they know that the driver don't have loose change at that. They are really sick to do such an act just to get a free fare. Really annoying isn't it! Can't help it, but there are such kind of people in this world.

Oh my! I have never even paid a Jeepney with 100 bucks let alone take out a thousand pesos and expect the driver to give me a change?! wow. that is so very inconsiderate of the woman. I think it was inappropriate and it could be something some people would do just so they can get a free ride. (it would appear that the were trying to pay but then the woman just did not have something lesser than the amount she is using). OF course Jeepney drivers won't have a change for a thousand. even convenient stores sometimees have troubles changing 1000 bill. hay i'm also having a highblood with this. hehe

It happens at times when all of a sudden you realize that you did not have some spare money. Well I just hope that it was not intentionally made by the passenger that she got 1000 whole bill to pay them so she can have a free ride. It happened to me also when I withdrawn from our ATM machine it gave me whole 500 bill I have no choice at the time to have it change somewhere else and I was force to pay that with the Jeepney driver. Luckily my driver got the change so I have a clear conscience of leaving the jeepney paying my fare.

Well, I guess sometimes it can't be helped. There were times when I were in a hurry and I'd ride public transportation without actually realizing earlier that I was only carrying large bills. That was not intentional in my part. The best thing would probably be, as passengers we should always carry small bills or coins for such events and for drivers, I think they should always be ready at any time of the day for such occasion as well.

good day kenshin2143, with reference to your post, well, people nowadays have their own tricks on how to exempt themselves in paying some obligation. just like what you have encountered, for some reason this act is turning to be a modus wherein a person will give a higher denomination because he/she does not have the intention to pay. and this usually happens during the rush hour. as a result, those drivers who do not have the ability to give the change will just let the passenger to go down without paying anything. although others are telling that the driver should be ready for his change but, it is the passenger who has a great responsibility in here. hence, the passenger should prepare a lower denomination before getting inside a public utility vehicle.

Hi, It is irresponsible, bigoted action to do that. Make me like to take that bill and tore it in half to get even with that inconsiderate person. On the other hand, being on the receiving side, like a good businessman, the driver should be ready with the change even if it is one thousand pesos. It would be a simple matter of counting off nine one hundred and one fifty peso bills and three ten peso coins, a total of nine hundred eighty pesos change.

There are really people who don't prepare some little currency denominations or we will just presume that she didn't want to pay her fare. I think she is inconsiderate too.

Well, maybe the lady thought that she still has some coins or smaller bill on her wallet and later she just realized that she has none so she doesn't have any choice but to hand her P1,000. Things like that happen. Well, it happened to me a couple of times that due to a hectic schedule and a lot of pressure, I just ride a jeep not bothering about the money I have. Maybe, it was unintentional.

People nowadays have their own tactics just so they won't pay any fare when riding a public transport. Some will really take advantage of the driver's lack of change by giving him a huge bill. Well I think its intentional on the part of the passenger although you can't blame otjers because sometimes, they really don't have lose coins.

It's annoying if you are one of the passenger and somebody handover a very big amount whom they know that a poor driver impossible to exchange that kind of amount. If I were their I will pay for her and shout her the words "hope you will small amount when you ride back"

I suppose both party's should work together to solve this problem. The passenger should have the correct change in case the driver can't exchange a large bill. And the driver should keep extra change if he or she does wish to pass up a fare because of a lack of change.

I experienced riding the jeepney with only 3 pesos as loose coin and my wallet has a 500 pesos. I was worried, because i know the driver will get mad at me, as some of them has a Sticker "Barya lang po sa Umaga", which i really know as true. I keep rummaging my bag looking for other coins to complete the 10 pesos fare. A lady in front of me, said it's okay she will pay for it, yet i don't know her. I blushed because of her generosity. She told me she experienced it too one time and a lady she doesn't know paid for her fare so she's returning the favor. I thanked her profusely. I think when you are caught in a situation like that, it's best that you should humbly tell the driver of your predicament and that you don't mean it. That way, the driver will not get annoyed.

hello, i seldom or never ride public transport anymore unlike when i was young but you know friend, when you are in business you really have to be prepared for all types of people that may come your way, owning or operating public transport is like operating your own business, so it comes as a no surprise to me that the driver encountered such, hope it's a lesson although i do not sympathize with the lady, who might be doing these for a free ride, on the other hand she is paying legal tender, negotiable in our Republic, so no matter how awkward it may seem, it's an obligation to give here the proper change for the services rendered to her.

I feel sorry for the poor driver. My dad used to drive passenger jeepneys when we were still little kids and I can see how hard it is for him to earn when he has to make sure to send the boundary to the operator complete each day. That spot the lady has taken could have gone to someone else who is considerate enough to have enough change to pay for the correct fare. Each peso for those little earners is significant. I would have been irritated at that lady. I hope she received some lashing from the driver. If I were the driver, I would have driven along and find some gas stop and break her money down. Then she can go down when I am ready to give back her change, lol!

Poor driver.. that lady should think first if she has an exact amount or smaller bill to pay her ride,, I think no driver has a change for a one thousand bill.. when I ride a jeep I always check my wallet if I have a smaller bill or coins so that I can easily pay the driver so I will not bother or cause any delays..
