Stealing

I was at work, I was cleaning the litter shelves. I thought I heard something, I walk over to the counter, and noticed this older man (I would say 50's even 60s). I heard him playing with bags but it looked like he shoved one in his pocket. But I never saw him for sure. He then talks my ear off, which is big red flags trying to distract me from noticing. Another guy came in and I watched this guy and it looked like he grabbed a bone. I am there by myself, with no cameras. I will ask my boss this Wednesday to see what he says. I didn't see him for sure, but his pockets were full, and he was acting fishy, he kept coming back and when I walked by him, he would start talking, then pick things up, put it back.

You are right it does sound fishy to me. Although if you are not totally sure sounds like maybe time for the boss to step up on a little more security.

I wasn't sure, but it was fishy. Just the way he grabbed the item, and even the guy I was serving said the samething as well. The guy was just being a jerk, and seeing what he could steal. I really don't think the police would do anything what I figured out, it was about 10$ of items he took.

You should install cameras so you know forsure. Most businesses have them now to at least deter shoplifters.

It would bug me as well. But I guess installing cameras may loose business. He has some old fashion ways, and this town is well odd. I would never want to live nad raise my kids in it, people if they see security camera wont shop there, and basically say they are saying they will steal. I've had a few customers come in and just sound completely nuts.

Sadly, my boss trusts everyone, and so laid back that I really don't think it bothers him.

What that guy was doing does sound fishy and I have always been told go with your gut instinct when it comes to there is a possibility that a customer is stealing. You should talk to your manager and maybe see if there is a way that they can put cameras in or something or have them running at that time of day and see what are some things that you can do in a situation like this.

I will never be able to understand why there are people that feel like it is necessary to steal. I mean if there is something that you need, buy it and if you are not able to afford it, then ask, but don't steal because that is something that will make people lose all respect for you. I can't believe that they have you working in a store all by yourself. That is something that never happens here. There is always more than one person working at a time in every store that I've ever been in.

There is not enough business, for them to pay for more than 1 employee. Most of the stores in the mall have 1 person working. It hard to keep track of the customers, as people walk through the store, to get to the mall and other stores. Sometimes you have 6 people just walking through, I know more people stealing as they walk through.

Sound quite fishy to me... your boss should invest in more security, like vido cameras and basic stuff like that. Then you could watch those tapes from different angles and really investigate what happened.

Does sound fishy. But what could you do, all by yourself? Is there a bell on the door when people come in?

There are two doors, one outside which has a bell, and the other is wide open into the strip mall.

hi Ricki it sounds like he was a shoplifter and was distracting yoj so he could pocket things and walk out of the store with them. thats really a shame too. Who needs that kind of stuff going on when you are working.?yes he sure was acting fishy as he was stealing probably.

I hope that your boss will do something about this and maybe get some kind of surveillance cameras. I am sorry that you had to deal with this issue. I know when I worked in retail we had security guards who would walk around the store and keep an eye on things. If we saw suspicious activity we would call security and they would check it out.

Most bigger stores are like that here. But being such a smaller store, most people walk through the store to get to other stores. But I have noticed several times where I believe people are stealing, I even thinking my boss knows people are stealing but does nothing about it.

Oh, that sounds really suspicious. I would've been tempted to find busy work in the aisle he was in just to see what he was up to and make him uncomfortable about being watched.

I hate stealer, i don't know why they do like that, just for money and sell their soul to the hell? In here, whenever i go out, i scare stealers a lot, they can do any thing just get something from you, from laptop, cellphone, bag, gold necklace, gold rings, etc...even though you are walking or driving a motorbike/bike.
