So hard to save money nowadays

Don't you think? Really hard to save money with today's economy... when i was a kid only my father worked, and my mother took care of us and our education and we were able to have a decent life and put some money in the bank too. Today we have so many possibilities but no jobs or jobs with low wages, high prices and taxes, credit cards and monthly payments and we can't even dare to dream to save money. I can't imagine people who have kids how they manage. I hope the world's economy will recover but this won't happen soon, that's for sure.

No it is not easy to do. We have children and I do stay home with them as well as home school them. We rarely get anything more then what goes automatically into our 401k away. We took a huge hit in January with the inflated costs of health care plus the cost of new taxes. A 26% hit to our take home pay. We live on cash as best we can not suing the credit cards, and buying cheap or growing our selves. I am a crazy coupon lady by necessity and every penny we can stash it is done to. Some months we barely get $10 away but every penny will build up and someday we may not have to worry as much...hopefully sooner then later.

I think it is good to save money on different things like groceries, food, bills, etc when possible and one can use it when needed. I also think that economy is bad and hope that it gets better.

It is hard to save money, but I am trying very hard to save as much as I can. I save my change and then put the change in my savings account. I add about an extra 40.00 a month into my account. I am hoping to launch my online site next month and hope I can help build up my account. Randy's income is the only income we have to live on and it is hard. My brother lives with us and pays some of the bills as well which is a tremendous help to me. There are no jobs here in Nevada and the ones that are available I am overqualified for.

Yes, it seems to be harder than it used to, to save money. I think part of it is our lifestyles and expectations, but part of it is an economy that is too weak. Job loss, rising food and health care costs are familiar to many people. It's hard to save any money at all without making some serious adjustments and finding other income isn't easy, either. All we can do is keep trying and find new ways to decrease our spending while finding new ways to increase our incomes, if that's possible.

In my home country most saving accounts have low interest rates. Many of the interest rates are below the level of inflation. A couple of current bank accounts have interest rates on them if the person has between 1 and 4 thousand pounds in his or her account. Some people have a tax free savings account and every one I know about has a low interest rate. I took my money out of one of those due to getting an okay interest rate for one year then a very poor interest rate. I opened a two new current accounts. The first one let me get a high interest one year saving account and the second is for fee free spending when overseas. You see I am very keen on traveling to different countries. It was high time I had a debit card excellent for traveling. The high interest I am talking about for the first account is 8 percent. It is very hard to save with today's economy. Our a long period of time the money adds up. Good luck.

Most accounts give less than 2% interest and that is shocking. I wasn't going to accept that you see River Light. 7 percent is pretty high. Good luck with your saving.

Hi maximax, i'm glad you found a solution to increase your income, 8 percent is very good! In our country the highest is 7 percent, pretty good i would say, but few money to save in the bank account. Thanks, good luck to you too!

It is so true! And if it weren't for my in laws and parents' help, I really don't know how my husband and I could ever manage to raise all 4 kids. We have tried several businesses to get by, but sometimes, it is not because if there is no longer people buying from us, but people who just scam us in dealing business with them. Sometimes, I do think that luck isn't on our side.

Hi Jenny, It's great you have your parents to help you, i'm not yet married and i don't have kids but i hope when it'll happen, i'll find better days.I think many people were in the same situation as you with their busnisses, some people just want to take advantage, it's really sad when you worked hard.

Thinking about it now, I really feel that I have lost the opportunity to make it real big. My husband and I were mango wholesaler. We have made a name out of that business. Big malls and supermarkets have been one of our regular clients. We manage to earn at least $10,000.00 from it in a month, but because of the people who took advantage of my husband's generosity, well we lost the business.

Everyone is aware of the situation of the world's economy, may it be in the US, Asia, Australia, and other continents or countries. The economy will surely recover if and only if the people, most especially those who are running the country, will cooperate and think of ways on how to preserve or save the world and make it a better and suitable place to live. What happens these days is that while other people are breaking their bones hoping to fix everything, others are also doing their best to counteracting these things. So what can we expect? So depressing but true.

Yes, it is very hard to save up now. Considering all inflation and prices being so high for no reason. Back in the days my dad would run the family pretty well and save up for future, now i am running the family and it is quite hard, savings is pretty much out of the question.

To save money today, you have to cut the expenses, but as the food price goes up steadily while the income stays the same, it is hard for you to save as much as former days. At the hard time, if something unexpected happens, like the fee for children's education, health insurance and so on, your expenses will totally out of control. I think we have to change our habit to a tight life, so that we can save some money in present time with losing of interesting in our lives.

On the one hand you are very right that it is quite difficult to save money in today's technology laden world. However, I don't really think that you are right that it is impossible to have a family where only one parent is working outside the house. I've been staying at home with our children for the last six years and though we are struggling from time to time, it is possible to do. We might not have the biggest and best of things, we still are able to get by and we are able to enjoy some little luxuries in our lives.

Hi dorannmwin, i think you missunderstood me, i do believe it's possible to have a family where only one parent is working(this happened in my family too), but it's hard to save money with today's economy and hard to manage expenses when there are also kids. When i was a kid only my father worked because my mother had to stay home(with us, four kids) and still we could save money, 20 years ago :) I'm glad you can manage and i agree we don't necessary need the best to be happy.

I agree that saving money is difficult. The ecoomy is harsh on us and items cost so much more than they used to. It is hard to get by and still save money for the future. Sometimes it seems like it will never end and there is no light at te end of the tunnel. Still we have to try what we can to ucceed because it is all that we have.

It's true that it's so hard to save money nowadays,I find that there is a widening gap between rich and poor, the social tensions are running high over,I can't figure out why the rich can gain so many wealth, and the poor are getting poorer. It's so unfair.

Hello friend, i agree that nowadays it is so hard to save money. In my country most people have high consumption, they cannot save money in bank, even most of them have some loan in some bank for their live consumption. they cannot save their money for while because most of us have high consumption. There are many goods that available in the market that attracted us to buy. Yes, most of people in my country have loan than saving.

It is..very hard to save money. Majorly, it could also depend on what kind of lifestyle you opt for. For instance, if you are drawing average wage and you want to buy or pamper yourself with all the good things in the world, you could hardly save a penny. That is how I feel.

Hi rekhum, i understand what you mean, we need to buy only the things we need in order to save some money, i also tried this, but even if i save some money from shopping i put them on bills and daily expenses. The high prices and taxes and euro/dollar increasing from day to day, really hard to put a penny aside.

We have children and there is only my husband that works, as I am to ill to work.We have six children two are working and the other four are still at school, we also have a mortgage that we have to pay for, so if repairs need to be done to the house, then we have to have the money for those as well. With all the prices of food as well as other things going up, it is very hard for people to save money. However in a few more years we will have paid for our house and we will have a lot more money.

I agree with you it is so hard to save money. We have a daughter and it is hard to be able to keep up with all of the responsibilities we have. We have to work hard to pay bills and at the same time we are looking for ways to earn more. I have recently decided to work harder to look for ways to make things from home, like handmade soap, body wash, etc. And looking for ways to stretch what we have, freezing leftovers, etc. I'm also hoping to look into planting some vegetables so we can save in that regard as well.

I have saved some money as far as possible and my son is also saving some money. It is necessary for future.

Hi yinxiu, glad you joined and welcome to mylot! Our childhood was so happy, our parents have managed to keep us in school and pay all bills, we were rarely late with payments, we also had a decent and comfortable life. Today it's hard to have the same thing, we work for a low salary because there's no other way. I think our leaders should change something but there's no trust left, only hope.
