Weekend craft sale: What was hot!

Just finished the spring craft sale and had a great time and made some money. I think most of the people there had a good weekend. The weather cooperated and there were tons of people out and about. I sold a ton of Easter things...and odds and ends of other things. A couple of books, two framed poems...a couple of water bottle totes, tons of cards....and the lady next to me sold a ton of things too. She had rag rugs you crochet. She started with two big piles and by the end of the weekend she had three left. So if you are looking for something that really sells she sold a ton! She crochets them and everyone just loved them. I think you can find a pattern online how to do it. She cuts the fabric and sews it together and then crochets it. I think in all she sold about 30 rugs....Just giving you an idea of what was hot at the sale. Have you ever made a rag rug?

I am glad that you made money at the craft fair and that the weather cooperated with you. I bet it made you feel good to work this weekend and that you made some great money to help you and the family out. I love going to craft fairs and doing crafts myself. I am learning to sew, quilting and making jewelry. I am hoping to start an online business so I can sell things and make extra money.

I've never crocheted a rag rug, but I've braided and knitted them. Reading this makes me want to do it again! I'm glad you had a good sale!

Hm. I can't help but wonder if there's a market for braided rag rugs. Not the fancy wool kind, but the more authentic scrap material kind. Now I'm thinking...

Terrific. Congratulations. Good to hear you did well at the craft sale. Weather is a big key in outside sales. We all know what happens if it's ugly out! I can't crochet but can knit. Haven't see a rag rug but have heard all about them. Sounds like an interesting idea, thanks. Will have to search online for a completed photo of the project. Might be able to knit something along that line.

That's terrific! Having seen your things first hand I have to say I can't imagine you not being sold out. You're so talented. It must be cool knowing someone likes your creations so much they pay for it. I don't know if that sounds right. I just mean you put such effort into something and for people to appreciate it enough to spend hard earned money, it's such a validation for all your hard work.

Thanks sweetie...but actually they aren't so much hard work and works of love...I love doing it! And it's nice I do sell alot. I had a spanish man come and ask me to translate one of my poems into spanish for his mother.....so I did...now I have come up with another bunch of ideas as we have many spanish people living here...I have now added a line of spanish greeting cards....all done in their language...its a new challenge and I love it. Thank God for the internet so I can do all of this....they translate everything and I was able to order rubber stamps done is spanish! I always appreciate your comments...its so nice having a cheerleader in the crowd!

My aunt does a lot of crocheting and she goes around charity shops looking for cheap wool also to make things to sell at the craft fair she goes to, she has done a couple and has done well out of them, obviously she has to pay for the table. But she still comes away with a profit, she also goes to jumble sales and charity shops and always comes away with some great bargains. She has to be busy so she is always knitting, crocheting or making things. So it's good she's getting a bit of money for her work. Glad you enjoyed your craft sale, they can be fun!

I am glad you were able to sell a lot of things this past weekend. I sounds like you had a good weekend. I have never made a rag rug. I am not too crafty. I would like to do things like that, but I have just never really attempted anything. I am not that creative. Toffee sales have been decent for me though. It is approaching the weather where I can't really ship it anymore.

Nope, I haven't, but you just brought back some memories. My Father-in-law with his heavy German accent would talk about rags, rugs, rocks and rakes, and only by the context could you tell which word he was actually using.

I made a rug once about 35 years ago, and not crocheted. I did get the idea from a magazine. I cut lengths of different shades of blue fabric - tubes reallt and stitche dup in lengths and thurned me to the right side. Dozens of them in 3 shades of blue. I sewed them in a circle and the circle got bigger and bigger and then I changed to a different shade and just kept going. It was a lot of hours of work but it was good fun. Then I blended in the thrisn shade. Really looked pretty. when it was finished then I sewed it onto burlap material as a backing. I loved it so much

Well done, glad it all went well for you. There are a few craft sales here and the things that they sell are really great. I use to make cards as a hobby, but no longer make them.I have only just made a few candles that I got the kits for as a gift from my husband, I had to wait until a friend was here, as I neede some one to stir the candle wax and my health wasnt that great and still is not great, however they do look great and we made all different colours as well as sizes, great end result, plus I have loads of candle, also we added scent so that when they burn the room smells great.

Making candles is one thing I haven't tried...at least for a very long time! But I do love my cardmaking and I sell a ton of those too.

I've never made a rag rug and I really don't think that I would have the patience to ever make one because they would be something that would take a while to make. I do think that it is great that this woman was able to sell so many of them over the course of the weekend, I just hope that she was not selling herself short on the price that she had put on her rugs. As far as your things that you were selling, it does sound to me like you had a pretty successful sale as well.

Hello jill, Rag Rugs? No I have never made any at all but I am really glad she sold them all and you sold your things too. I wish we could do that here it would be such fun. When I can I will look at the Pattern but I cannot crochet to save my life. If I lived by you I would love to visit those Stores you all put together sometime. Long way to travel though but would be worth it.xxx

I have no knowledge with that. When I was a kid, my mom taught me how to crochet, but since I really have no interest with that, I never learned. I guess, you really need to have the passion for it for you to be able to make one project.

I think you do...for me it hurt my hands too much to crochet them. I made one a long time ago and that was it. I like my smaller crafts better.

Good for you! IT sure is a huge inspiration to sell what you make! I wish I could! I have heard of the crocheted rugs with fabric, you just cut strips of the fabric and then crochet it like you would yarn, with a bigger needle of course. I have never liked rag rugs but obviously I am in the minority! I have also heard that they use those grocery T-shirt plastic bags...they cut strips of those and tie the ends together and then crochet the strips....again, not a fan and dont' see how they'd hold up to much, but I heard they sold, so whatever sells, I guess!
