Sometimes I regret being a teacher

I like teaching very much. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with the students. I have patience. But now the students are agressive. Being a teacher is more about having a strong voice, a firm character it is almost like being in the army, if you are very strict the better than you are as a teacher.

Hi internaty, I won't agree with you. There are lot of things involved in teaching. Being strict won't make you as good. I agree nowadays students are different. But being strict won't change them very much. They always their teachers should be a good fried for them. Be friendly with your students. understand their problem. They will proud about you...and Be proud about being a teacher.

Well, the Head told me to laugh less with them and not to smile until Chritmas, ha ha ha, I think she was right. The majority of the students are very good to work with but I am referring to those unruly students, ( the minority) who are not interested in your class and do not care about paying attention at all. Thanks for the support I appreciate it ...I will think about my previous thoughts against teaching,

karthik I have bee a school administrator for many years and I see the problem with the teachers being friends with the student. The students don't need a friend to laugh and hang out with. The teacher should be an adult friend to the students - someone who will listen to their students concerns and offer advice not some one to hang out with.

If a teacher becomes strict, the students will not be encourage to study more. They would surely be not happy to come to your class. And instead, they will build up an unusual fear towards you. I think that that best way to do is to tell the students that they can approach you anytime they want if they have any problems, concerning either with school or family, but when they are inside the classroom, they should give you respect and should give 101% effort in doing good with the subject.

I took early retirement part because some of the staff and the School Board was more with punishing students than trying to change their behavior. I spent most of my career working to turn difficult students around. Treating them with respect and explain some alternative behavior to them. What I found was most of the disruptive students didn't know any other way to behave. I have seen many teacher correct students and suggest a different way to handle the situation. Such concern for the students makes a difference. It is easy to turn a student in for poor behavior and punish them but it takes understanding to become involved with the student and show them a different way. Teacher who are this kind of friend are remembered and respected by the students they help.

yes I agree, I was working with unruly students. I showed patience, care and I tried to understand them but they told me you are not going to get mad at us and they kept misbehaving. They were good only with the teachers who were really strict.

I can understand how you feel. Although being a teacher has some benefits, such as the stable salary, two long vacations and so on. But actually it is not easy to teach the students. The children can be noisy and they may not want to listen to you. Today the children have their own thoughts and they will not follow you right away.

It is really hard when you are in the classroom and there are a few unruly students just talking and answering bad to your questions. They even get mad when you want them to write...

Hi, Teaching profession i a respectable profession. You are a kind and honest teacher. You are right. Now a days some children are becoming aggressive and it is very difficult to control them. But there is nothing to be regret as a teacher. There are some students who are good students and they come to school for getting knowledge. Teacher plays important role in molding the career of the students. So you continue your profession friendly and honestly.

I think it depends to the teacher if s/he wanted to be treated.I think teaching is two way process, students learn from you, you learn from them. I think it is just a sign that you must to change your treatment when it comes to the student.

I'd say mutual respect is a key ingredient in teacher-student relationships. Even a soft spoken teacher may still be a good teacher who is well respected. Teachers deserve to be respected as much as their dedications and respect toward students.

I just admire teacher nowadays, for the same reason. Now kids are so rude and aggressive (due to the upraising, or the lack of, their parents give them), that you have to be really strict and you have to really-really keep discipline to deal with them.

Yes, I agree with that . Sometimes parents do not care about teaching the children good manners and respect to the teacher or to their peers. So the children just go to school and misbehave all the time.

Yes it is really hard when they keep talking and talking while you try to teach. And as muy personality is cheerful the unruly students think that they are allowed to keep misbehaving.

I teach too but I choose not to teach in a school. When you work in a school you don't get to choose your students. It is very difficult and students do not respect the teachers, not like last time. Anyway, I conduct my own classes on weekends. Only students who are interested will come and join my classes. It is a joy teaching this kind of classes.

Yes I agree completely. It would be a joy for me too to teach only students who are really interested in the learning process rather than other things like chatting endlessly or using the cellphones during the class.
