Hi mylotters! Just wanna share this one.. and I'm curious if you also encountered the same. I dropped by one morning at the bakery for some bread for my snacks, when a mid 40's woman approached me and asked for alms, according to her she's hungry and asked me money to buy some bread. I was touched when she said that, In reply I said yes but I told her that instead of money I'll buy her a bread. When I was about to pay the bread for her, the saleslady told me that the said beggar is not actually eating bread, and being hungry and being in need of money to buy food are just beggar's excuses and what she actually wants is money. I asked the beggar if she really wants a bread, she can't answer me straight..and her face was unhappy and seemed not interested when I handed to her the bread . I was disappointed that time.. I'm beginning to give doubts with beggar's sincerity after that incident. I am not rich but I am always willing to give but I felt bad upon knowing that such kind of beggar on the street exist.

that is really funny. I also had experienced that when I gave two street children meals because according to them, they had not eaten anything for the whole day. Out of pity I gave them meal but instead of thanking me, they even demanded for more rice and asked for the coins I had in my hand...I just bought them rice but never gave them coins anymore...I smiled, turned away while shaking my head in disbelief.

Yeah, most of us do have soft hearts if it concerns beggars. But some considered it as a job because most of them knew that most people are really kindhearted. An begging is the easiest way to earn money. Just imagine if they do it everyday, I think they might earned more than an average employee is having. Anyway, not all who begs are really beggars. Some are used by syndicates to earn for them. But there some too like what you have experienced, who said that she is hungry and she begs money from you to buy food. So what you did is, you bought her food but instead of thanking you, she kept silent. As if it's our responsibility to give them. I seldom give alms to beggars, especially if I have seen that they are very capable to have a job and feed themselves.
