Rescued puppies

When we rescued two puppies from the wild we left one with its mother. She was a poor thing, trying to raise 9 puppies without anyone to care for her. Several of us fed her and we were able to find homes for 6 of her puppies. We personally decided to take home two of the remaining three, but left one for the mother as she still had milk.
At first the lone puppy did well, he had all the milk and we continued to feed the mother although she only barked and growled at us. Then one day the puppy did not come for food although before he had bullied his mother and taken her food. The following day he had gone. We presumed he had got sick and died. The mother is now looking ill, her fur is terrible. We are trying to help her but it is difficult because she will not let anyone near her.
The good side of this story is that the two puppies we took are now healthy and lively little dogs with shiny fur and wagging tails. Of course that means that we now have 6 dogs whereas before we had 4 and that seemed rather a lot. We had hoped to find someone to adopt the puppies when they had been tamed and looked healthy but this is proving difficult. No-one wants a dog here unless it is a large guard dog. Meantime we now love the puppies and could not part with them now unless someone who loved dogs would take both of them together as they are inseparable.

aaawww they are so lucky for you. perhaps the dogs left have gotten into something not good for them
is there no animal shelter for the mother left? she may get pregnant again and die with puppies still left alone. those look like they might turn into large enough to protect a house. wonder why no one will take a chance

No one takes a chance because there are so many dogs available here but people go for pedigree dogs, not street dogs like ours. A group of us are trying to help the mother but catching her is difficult. We need a vet with a dart - but vets are not into that kind of thing...the hope is to catch her before she gets pregnant again.

They are adorable! It is good that at least a few where saved and the last lonely pup might have been taken in by someone else...

That is what we hope happened but he was very wild and would not have easily been caught...

It is a beautiful story, yet I can see reality creeping in. Dogs grow up and they need food and vets. I hope that you have the money to take care of them. It`s so difficult to get to love an animel and then having to give it away because you can`t keep it.
I decided not to have another dog because I did not have the means to have it as I liked: well fed and in good health. I wish someone would tell me a similar story that involver adopting (even if it was just giving the money) a child. There are countries where children are dying of hunger
. I know that is not what your story is about. But puppies and babies are so helpless and sometimes we have so many things we could do without.

Dear marguicha, reality crept in a long while ago, we have acquired 6 rescue dogs now and it is getting more and more difficult to look after them, but we are committed. They get plenty of food, lots of love and regular visits to the vet.
Since getting involved we have met others and one person in particular is trying to persuade the local authority to provide a dog sanctuary. So we are helping her raise funds.
Lots of people give money to children in poor countries, I have done so myself and I do believe that children need more attention than dogs! If we lived in India and it was as easy to adopt a child as it is to adopt a dog then we would have a houseful by now.

Oh how sweet. I wonder if the mother and pup got Parvovirus? The fir looks really bad on a dog with it. It's pitiful to see a dog suffering.
