Next week is the start of Lenten Season that is being celebrated by the christian community. i noticed that most people do anticipate it not because they want to spend the season reflecting on their spiritual belief but rather making reservations in the best spots in the world so they can enjoy the season with the family. I do not have anything against this practice but it seems that the truly essence of the lenten season is being forfeited by doing worldy pleasures rather than getting in touch with the moral and spiritual obligations of the people. What do you think?

exactly you observed it well. maybe it depends also on the family values, there are a lot of things a family can do together to reflect on something.. at least one of the days during lent.

Good Friday can be the best day to slow down for the whole family.

i do slow down on good friday and black saturday, no work, don't leave the house, do the station of the cross. the majority seem to only "stop everything" on good friday.

We are not on the same belief. People maybe after the Lenten ceremony it's time for family gathering or getting together. It's a holiday so they grab the opportunity to unite with other family members in their home or in any luxurious resorts

In all actuality, the lenten season started in mid-February with Ash Wednesday and will culminate on this coming Sunday with Easter. Lent is a season of fasting and also reflection of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made to us. You are right that Holy Week (which started today) is the time when most Christians do the most reflection. For me, I abstain from something that I really appreciate during the entire lenten season and I do a lot of prayer during Holy Week leading up to Easter.

Indeed there are a lot of people who think like that cherigucchi. Specially those that are employed full time. They treat the Holy Week as a time for them to relax. I also anticipate the Holy Week, because i get to have some time to reflect and go to church for the occasion. And on Saturday, it would be a reunion activity with the family. I think some people needs to be reminded on this.

Thanks for your response. It is just fine that families find this holy Week good for bonding together but of course the true message of the season should not be forgotten.
