Well Done or Medium Rare?

My husband and I had a dinner with close family friends at a steak house. They serve the usual variety of steaks (of course that's what the resto is for) including salads, pasta and pizzas, wines and more. The green salad I ordered was great with its own dressing. The pizza my husband ordered was mouth-watering and really good. The spaghetti with white sauce for the kids was superb! With these orders alone, I felt I didn't have room for steak anymore. But when the steak was served, I forgot I was almost full already. I had my steak well done while my friend who ordered it to be medium rare returned her steak and had it re-cooked well done also. I needed a shot of red wine after dinner because I was hugely full I thought I wouldn't eat for a week. How do you order your steak? Do you also want it well-done?

I'm a well done sort of person myself. My husband is a medium person as he says that's the way steak should be eaten. Sounds like you had quite a feast there with a most desireable menu.

A friend of mine is an ex-chef (supposedly) and he scoffed when we had this discussion at work and I stated that I liked my steak cooked medium. He stated that if it's cooked for longer than rare, all the goodness and taste is cooked out of it.
If I'm at home, my wife knows how to cook (exceedingly well) so I simply have what I'm given, but I still order a medium steak when I'm out for the simple reason that I don't know how the chef judges these things and a medium steak has more chance that him deciding that a rare steak should be raw or a well done steak should be charcoal.

I love a great steak especially form one of the popular steakhouses. My steaks of choice are either porterhouse or t-bone and are always ordered well-done. I find that steakhouses have the best burgers too.

Well at home I usually eat it whatever way it is cooked and given to me. At a restaurant, I usually order it medium rare. Although there are several times I go to a restaurant and instead of ordering steak I find myself ordering some chicken. Alot of the time grilled in some form or fashion.
