Has life improved with new technologies?

In early days before telephone, we had our greatest technological achievement by Edison, we had good light too , before that electricity. Well this does changed life of many, instead of living a life like bats, which sleeps in day time and wake up mostly at night, now with bulb and electricity we had lights at night too. So people can look clearly at night too. Again, with wheels came car, bus, trains they also made life simple with quick life journey just like 'Around the World in 80 days' days' a 'Jacky Chan' movie, well with planes it's now just 7 days to travel and cover the whole world.
Telephone came by, we shared information quickly with voice and for this don't need to
learn more and needed operators like for telegram to interpret our private message. Well all these made life simple.
Then came Charles Babbage era, computer came to make life more simple. Jon Von Computer just designed to take it a little further with a keyboard and monitor with code inside hardware. Then came IBM machines, mobile phones all look clean and it seemed like all is going fine. People also liked it and started it to learn and develop it in their own way. Now this came smartphones, which made life something different. Now higher smarter cheaper things pop up with free apps to look on and play with life angry birds.
Is this making our life simpler or is it time consumer. For me its taking my lot of time, first to understand these new stuff and then understand what those new apps do. Then as I am ready to use, another app or phone came up which is much faster and more beautiful than I have and have more features than that I have right now. Now I jump for this one too, takes time to learn new stuff and then came another with new stuff. Now this goes on and on, until I stop this mess, I found that the things I wasted to learn those tools were of no use in my life and just wasted my useful time. May be if I utilized those moments and wasted my time like those days as Edison did, I might have been the next Edison or may be Einstein. So what's its like wasting a lot of time for such useless craps.
Now this discussion don't include stuff like those advancement in medical science and agriculture and economic development. It is specific to time and how these tools are wasting them rather than utilizing them for good use.

It depends on each person I guess. Some would think that its a waste of time if they did not go with a trend in a modern day, that is why they go along with the society like buying new cell phone with modern feature and so on. Another is for them, they would not think about wasting their time when buying those stuff, it is because for them, they want their life to become easy because technology help us our life to become easier, so that is the only way to survive, but some people would think that buying those stuff is a waste of time. It is because they want to have a simple life and they are tired to study another new feature in the technology. They do not want to go along with the society and its fine with them even if they were left behind. A simple life which for them its fine without that technology even though some people may see it as an advantage to make life easier.

That is what we called technology evolution. Never ending evolution. If we stop, we're not going to learn anything if they want to learn, but if they do not want to learn, they may stop also. All the things that surround us have evolution on it even human civilization and the earth. That is how the world works and everything has its own purpose according to God.

In my opinion, it depends on the technology that you're trying to learn, and how fast of a learner you really are if you're gonna waste time. For me, these new technology makes life easier. With cellphones, you can communicate with other people without needing to write a letter or run to the nearest phonebooth. With television, you can watch and relax without needing to go to your nearest theater to watch a play. With computers, you don't need to do manual computations, which could take too much of your time, if I might add. With the Internet, you don't need to subscribe to newspaper delivery. The most recent news can be found on reliable websites on the internet.

I ma sure life is a lot different since the arrival of technologies. Ever since Thomas Edison invented light bulb, i can never use the same excuse of lack of moonlight as an excuse for not doing my school works to my parent anymore, it does make it harder for me to find excuses not to call my parent, done my school and home works since the technologies are there to make many things possible now .

Interesting discussion thanks for the info. I was dumbfounded to think someone might be called Mr Computer. Now I read that Computer Society as it was called, was named after a John von Neumann, 1945 time period.
I heard this same argument from people when they were trying to get around in a windows operating system 9x time period. Why should we bother to learn so much when there are so many other things we could be doing?
Perhaps we might better understand the Arnold the Alien as he waves his little hands over the lights and strange warp controls that govern his spacecraft?
Or we might actually find a use for our technostuff for something useful besides older boxes that hold doors open?

I think technology is great this is how, I make my earnings online, through and by the computer, I have tried those Apps, they are too confusing, and I don't waste my time bothering with them,I just stick with earning my money, on my computer everyday.
