...to their 11-13 year old kids? It should be automatic. Before setting off for the hospital early this morning we watched a bit of the news on the BBC News Channel. On it reporters were saying that there has been an increase of very young alcohol drinkers, way below the legal age of 18 in the UK. They are drinking in the home environment. Then they had some 'expert' on, in the studio, going on about how parents should be talking to their kids about the dangers of alcohol, 'but not to preach to them' as she put it. For God's sake, why hasn't anyone mentioned the fact that pubs are closing down all over the country because those SAME PARENTS are staying at home drinking alcohol? I never had alcohol in the house because my Dad was always in the pub. Mum didn't drink then and she wouldn't anyway as we were so young. So, why has it all changed now? I don't get it. If I had kids they wouldn't even get a SIP of alcohol in the house until they were at least 17. If kids start drinking heavily when they're younger their livers haven't had a chance to develop properly, therefore it can't break down the toxins found in alcohol. Why do parents have to be TOLD this information, they should know it already!! Grrrrr!

Why are kids wanting to drink? Because their parent do? wow, my dad drank. I never did. My ex drank like a fish. I never did.

Its cheaper to drink at home than in a pub. It is also possible to get falling down drunk and not have to worry about the drive, or walk, home.

My folks had booze in the house, I was never tempted to try it. Maybe my brother, but I wasn't. Maybe my sister... but by the time she was 18 they had lowered the drinking age - actually lowered it about 3 months before I turned 21!

Not all parents are idiots. sometimes it's the kids sneaking out and doing things with their friends, peer pressure and all that. But yeah, parents shouldn't have to be told things like that.

I bet that the parents would have the same excuse. That nobody also told them when they were young. My kids has seen me drink a few times. But I always make it a point that I will be responsible about it. I only drink what I can manage, and I don't do silly things like make a fool of myself, or drive after I've had a few.

Yes, it's not so bad when you do as you do..but it's dangerous, isn't it, when the parents drink a lot but don't admit they do so..then their own kids think it's OK too.
