It is finally here....GH's 50th anniversary event on SoapNet...Starting tonight at 7pm pacific time (check your local listing for time) they are playing 50 hours of past episodes. I looked last night and for Saturday most are from the early 80's or course, beating us with Luke and Laura at first. But..one of my favorite ones is on Saturday...where Luke gets the code to stop the Ice Princess story of freezing the world. If memory serves...you will be able to see Nicos Cassidine, helena's husband, Anthony Cassidine, their nephew and Alexandria Quartermaine, Edward's neice...all stuck in the "freeze Machine" and being frozen as Port Charles is saved from the demise! But there is also one from 1963 I that has Steve Hardy and Phil Brewer fighting over Jessie Brewer...those are 1/2 hour black and whites so hopefully they'll be putting 2 old episodes in the hour. I look forward to seeing those oldies. Don't forget..tune in! I am DVR'ing them! Have fun!

Watching the Ice Princess one now. I got a DVR just in time for the marathon lol. I have watched up until the Ice Princess. I watched Luke and Laura's wedding, and I have to say I don't see what the big fuss was about, I got kind so of bored watching it! The best part was Scottie and Luke fighting. I like when there is a little more going on. I would have liked the first aired episode more if it didn't sound muffled, at least it did on my TV. I am already tired of Luke and Laura! I am loving Robert though. Robert is definitely one of my favorites.

I'm recording it to and same thing...I never did see the hoopla about their wedding! And the fight was great! I can say I enjoyed watching this time, as it was fun to see all the characters from "back then" to now. Bobby looks totally different! And there's always a "Maxie" in the group...first it was Amy Vinning, then Lucy Coe..and now Maxie. Robert Scorpio has always been my favorite, with a very close follow of Alan Quartermaine. He looked a handsome when he was older as he did when he was younger! I just dont' understand why so many of t hem are centered around luke and Laura
I did see that the very first episode they had on the marathon was the very first episode in 1963! And looking at it now, I think, how stupid! But back then it was probably pretty excentric! Black and White and the sound was muffled. But I watched it inquisitively...5 characters, each with only minutes appearance. One thing happening. Dr Steve Hardy was taking care of a girl with disfigured face due to an accident, He girl friend showed up, they went to dinner. Jesse Brewer and her husband Phil...(I forgot Phil was a doctor!) few words exchanged and that was it! But it was fun to see the "nurses station"...there in the corner with the door to the "medicine room" where all the hankie pankie went on!
I have just watch parts of a few today, but I wonder if they will have any more from the black and white days. And it has been fun to see the characters and their HAIR from years gone by! Roberts hair was always gorgous and today I watched one with John Stamos as Blackie..and his hair was great too!

lol, honestly I didn't care for the hair! I'm not into the longer hair on guys, or mullets! I think Jack Wagner looks better now than then. Just like I think Luke looks better now than then, and I still don't think he's much to look at, but better than then. How can anyone not like Robert?! You're right the black and white episode didn't have much. I saw it and was somewhat amused lol. The background music reminded me of a Alfred Hitchcock movie! I liked Amy. The actress that played her recently passed away. I was kind of sad to hear that, because who knows if she were still around she may have showed up for the 50th anniversary. You're right all the decades do have a Maxie of sorts, I think there is basically a Maxie on every soap opera. I don't get why they all center around Luke and Laura either. I mean they are OK I suppose, but I never got swept into that whole story. I just don't see the attraction, or the big deal. I have been watching most of the day. I can't watch all day though, because I have a small child, and he insists on being fed and played with. I don't think he gets my desire to watch GH.

I was dissapointed alot in the marathon. I mean...there were 2 from the 60's..the very first episode and another one in 1963. 1 from 1979 and like 20 from the 80's and 20 from the 90 and a few from 2000's. HELLO!!! THERE WAS LIFE IN PORT CHARLES PRIOR TO LUKE AND LAURA!!!!! Yet, they just seemed to focus on those two whenever possible. They both left the show after the 5 years they were there, and so they had to put other things on, but then when they came back after they had Lucky we had to sit through all those and then they left again and came back and we had to sit through ANOTHER wedding...I don't know why they don't just change the name to Luke and Laura and forget the GH part! I really felt bad for all the other actors...not a mention of Lila...why didn't they show the episode or two where Pic-A-Lila saved ELQ...shocases her plus the story behind the current battle for the relish. They could have showed more of the off set adventures..there was one with Robert (Luke had left town) and Sean Donnelly went into some caper with a chineese guy/gang whatever it was..and they had a espiode where Robert captures them on a skytram that was supposedly from NY to Canada,,,,dont' know if it was filmed in PalmSprings California as there is one there or if NY has a similar, but it was pretty cool, Robert falls out of the sky bucket, but manages to get back in..and if I remember right, it turns out that Sean was a double agent with the WSB and the DBX but turns good for the WSB. There was a time when Robin was little and a caper with black pearls/diamonds...and the chinese family's old guy hides them ias the eyes to Robins doll and that was a good story. So much more they could have shown, but they had to focus so nearly entirely on Luke nad Laura...and thing is...neither of those actors..Genie Francis or Anthony Geary...neither of them stay on the show for very long. They are always coming or going...while most others stay for some time. Even now, I read where Geary has a contract where he is for 3 summer months every year, which is why they have the yearly, "where'd Luke go?" story and then he comes back in October.
I DVR'd it all, and have watched a few and deleted them and there were a few I watched while they aired and deleted them. I saved the one with Robert, Luke and Laura when they were on the island the first day before they find the Cassidine underground city and the freeze machine....and the ony reason I keep that is cause ROBERT IS IN NOTHING BUT SHORTS... and short shorts, not those junky long things they wear these days! Granted I have to be interrupted with Laura's stupidity (I"ll make curtains for our grass hut with the fabric I brought from the ship") and Luke's arrogance while Robert does all the work!
THe two from 1963...they were odd, weren't they! That organ music...right out of the radio. They used that while the soaps were on the radio so they just brought it with them to TV. But being only 1/2 hour with commercials and rather a bit slow...I was thinking, how'd anyone stay with them without falling asleep...but realized...back then, that was probably pretty exciting for the time!

I noticed it in the store, picked it up and of course, Luke and Laura plastered on the front and tons in the middle. I said to myself...good grief..there was General Hospital BEFORE Luke and Laura and even AFTER!!!! Why do they always focus on those two! There were and are so many more characters and storylines WITHOUT them than there are with them...yet they continue to control the soap!
But I did look through it and they had like 5 pages of pref-Luke and Laura and ton of them with them and then the rest was after, but still with them. Alot happened in the black and whites...before the double L's. Alot of conflict and cheating and bad guys and all the same they have these days...who's the daddy....etc. Did you know that Steve Hardy, the first patariarch of the show...had a brother..Tom. Audry March was the nurse and she couldn't decide between the two and the love triangle was born and she was with Tom, and then married Steve and found out she was pregnant and thought it was Tom's. For YEARS it was Tom's child...even after Tom got killed. Later they "found out" Steve was his father. SO the "who's your daddy" story has been around for awhile! Then the 'child I never knew I had"...came about when Jeff Webber was revealed to really be Steve Hardy's son from and affair he had (not shown in the show).
Maybe they will put the 50th Anniversay episodes on DVD to buy from ABC.com of Amazon.com
