i raised my coffee prices... in cafe

Mexico
March 30, 2013 7:41am CST
I did it, on thursday. I raised my coffee prices. Just 10 cents per cup. Im still alot cheaper than all the other cafes here. But I had not raised the prices in almost 2 years here. And the coffee, sugar, even cups have all gone up several times. I talked to all my regular customers like the taxi drivers. They all agreed, I did the right thing. I think I can make 2.00-3.00 more a day from this. Only time will tell, but I think its ok.

As long as you have done your survey and found that your pricing are way below other cafe, I think it should be all right for you to raise your price. Furthermore, you have also received a favorable acceptance from your regular customers. It is fair that your make such an adjustment after two years and I do not think that you are mean but it is the right thing to do.

From time to time you should increase your price. The ingredients of a cup of coffee increases from time to time so you need to follow the flow of the business. Otherwise you will loss

You should make an evaluation before you impose the increase. The price should be fair between you as an owner and consider the welfare of your customers

Perhaps you already considered this, but you could also use a little less coffee grounds to produce the coffee. I don't know the measurements for the coffee there, but say for example you get a 20 pound bag of coffee beans and this gives you 200 pots of coffee. If you use a little less grounds in each pot, you may get 220 pots of coffee instead. This is 10% more for you in the long run. You may also be able to supplement the loss the strength with perhaps some really inexpensive additions. Flavor extracts do not cost a lot, and you could add a "special" type of coffee to your menu, adding another 10 or 20 cent to a cup. But, of course, still offering the regular coffee. Adding the 10 cent is something we must all do when the prices around us go up! Customers understand these things. But maybe it would give you much more business if you ever found a better deal on bulk coffee, and then used less per pot, and then you could actually maybe lower the prices and still make money! And this might give you even more business. All would say, "Mariaperalta's cafe offers the best deals ever!" I don't know the situation, of course, but I'm sure you will make it work out okay.

I really never, ever thought of that one. But if it changed the taste that would not be good at all.

Well, it's something you would experiment with. Find a friend, family or customer who really likes your coffee, and then try to make it with just a little less coffee for one small pot only. You may find that pressing it or brewing it on a different temperate extracts more flavor out of the beans, and you may be able to use less coffee to make the same quality coffee and then save money by not having to buy as much. Of course, if this would be a nasty taste or a different flavor, you wouldn't want to tarnish your reputation! But if it's successful, you could end up getting more coffee out of what you pay, and that means more money in the pocket!

I don't think your regulars mind this at all as they know they get great service from you. They probably wouldn't of said anything if you raised it more. Good service and food is hard to find and they know what they have with you.

I am glad that you did this. Wasn't it another mylotter who advised you to do so saying if the other internet cafe's were selling and people were buying then you should do so too? I seem to remember something like that. How kind of you to discuss this with your regular customers and the fact that they agreed shows that they knew that they were getting more than a bargain at your place of business. Good luck. I am sure that the sales will not drop or of they do drop it will only be temporary as people will find the way to pay for a cup of coffee

Hello, rising price is worldwide problem. I think noting is wrong in raising price. It is your right. You are paying more for sugar etc than you can charge more.

I am a coffee lover myself and consumes 3 to 4 cups a day regardless of what weather it maybe. I think your coffee price is still cheaper compares to ours. It's 25 cents in regular stores and a bit higher in some reputable establishments. Almost all prices are going up, so I think it's time for you to follow through.

Yes Maria, Happy Easter and I hope more earnings for your business too. Coffee, being an addictive drink, it's sure more costumers will come to your shop most especially because of the cheaper price.

I told you that raising the prices was the best thing to do. Coffee is not cheap anymore. I wish it was cheaper because I am an avid coffee drinker. And even the regular coffee in the can is expensive these days. I mainly buy Green Mountain Coffee for my Keurig machine. I love that coffee but that is like double the price of regular coffee. Now you should see a difference with the price change.

25 cents? omg that's cheep. It's about 2.50 here for coffee or tea. I don't buy coffee out very often, but if I'm out with friends, I'll have a cup to be social. I prefer my own coffee. It's higher quality.

I can see the future o.o i can see the ripple effect already, do you know what this means, stay with me! taxi drivers are smart people they have to remember all those streets, there like a really really smart mouse in a huge maze we call earth. Pretty soon they will just pass the cost to someone else, to little old jamie who will have to pass it on to someone and forward this could possible have a negative effect on are GDP.
