Abortions

We just heard of a girl we knew that died from trying to abort a fetus. It cost too much for her to go to a Dr. so she tired doing it by pills. She went into a coma and never came out. It was too bad that someone couldn't have convinced her to just adopt it out as there are so many parents wanting to adopt new born babies. Maybe we should concentrate more on that then finding way to help girls abort babies.

I do understand all the problems of having children to economically depressed people and all the expense etc. I also undestand why some countries allow abortions in clean and sterile situation. However, we are told in Psalm 138 that God knew us from the moment of conception. I am sorry but I do not believe in abortion. Who knows what contribution that child may have made to this world? Who knows what God's plan was for that child? I expect to be demonised for my point of view, but to me abortion is murder.

I almost included in my response below this line, "And if you disagree with me, just bite me." But I thought better of it.

I haven't heard that at all. It must give comfort to many mothers

To me, the most important thing is birth control and good education and access to it. If this girl was using reliable birth control, there would be no pontificating nor arguing about what to do with her fetus in the first place. That is a very sad situation.

I know my sister helped her daughter-in-law get fixed as soon as it was legally possible as she wasn't really a good mother. It was a good thing for the boy she did have as she lived with many men afterward divorcing her husband and was wanting to have children for all of them.

That is so sad. Abortion is expensive and having a child is more so. I find it hard to believe that a woman would choose to take a bunch of pills in an attempt to abort due to money alone. Common sense would tell her that taking a bunch of pills would more than likely kill her as well as the baby. I do think that more education is needed to prevent this sort of thing. While I am pro-choice, I do think that if more education was presented to young people long before they found themselves in such a seemingly desperate situation then maybe just maybe, many would make different choices ...be more careful not to put themselves in such situations. I do think that educating on what abortion entails ...graphic details and real images might make a difference.

The girl apparently had quite a few children already and I don't think she was married. She was raised by her great-grandmother who was already raising one of her children. I have a feeling the g-grandmother says that is it. I am not taking care of another baby.

someone should have educated her. Her great grandmother must be exhausted at this point. It shouldn't be her problem. Somewhere down the line, this girl never learned the art of taking responsibility for her own actions. I don't blame the grandmother a bit and one has to wonder how it got to this point. Where is the girls mom and the grandmother?

The girl's mom has been in jail most of the time I have know about her. I am not sure why her mother didn't raise her instead of her mother doing it. I know the grandmother and she seems capable of raising a child. In fact, she adopted one of her grandchildren to raise. I am not real acquainted with them so I am finding it hard to understand all the problems in that family.

Hi Hopefull90, This is very sad, no one should try to abort that way. Although I think that a woman has the right to choice to abort, especially under certain conditions, it has to be done safely. I agree too that it would be great if more effort was put into finding parents willing to adopt. Blessings.

My daughter was to a dinner with the grandmother recently and she said that the girl was taking pain killers and that was what killed her. She had adopted one of the earlier children.

A woman in her late 20's or 30's may not consider abortion coz since they are mature enough on what to decide on the growing baby inside of them. Most likely, for unwanted pregnancies, some would be really wanting to sell their children eventually. But for young girls, they have this fear in them and the simplest way they could think of is to get rid of it completely thus they resort to abortion.

She's not worried about hurting her reputation, and so she goes to killing her own baby? Completely irresponsible and heartless, don't you think?

She had a couple of babies already so reputation shouldn't have had anything to do with it because she already ruined that.

Hi! OUCH--I'm sorry she went through that and can only imagine what her family is going through now. She said nothing to anyone? I hope you won't hear about this sort of thing again but if you do, try to refer the person to a Planned Parenthood where they can hopefully get better help than dangerous medications or proceedures. From what I understand, PP is not anti-family but women who are pregnant and not prepared can get the help they need so they can make an intelligent choice for all involved. HUG!

Hi! Yes it is sad to see it happen, especially when it doesn't have to. I'm not so sure it would have been a mess but would have been on hold for a few years at best. That's why I suggested that people get the knowledge so they can regain control and hopefully, not the guilt trip along with it! HUG!

I think the girl waited too long to let anyone know she was wanting help. I suppose she heard friends use this method so without thinking of the danger tried it. I have a feeling her life was going to be one long mess. Still hate to see one go so young especially when I see life going on and on at the nursing home where the people just lay there and sleep not knowing who is coming or going

How truly sad, and on top of Easter too, that is tragic, she must have been extremely desperate to resort to what she did, what a sad waste of a life, two lives in fact. If only she had someone there for her, or a support network in place, then she might still be alive today.

I just don't think she understood the dangers of abortions in any manner. I think she was still in her teens.

Around here the government will practically pay for you to have an abortion. Yep, they make it simple to kill babies. On the tax payer's dollar.

I thought you might live in China because I know that not all that recent they made you abort after one child and pay a heavy fine if you didn't. I looked to see where you lived and recognized that name as the place my daughter did some of her Dr.s' degree. It looked like a tornado was coming in. Decided that was one place I would not care to live.

There are no easy answers here, in countries that don't allow any abortions except to save the Mother's life, there are so many unwanted children that they are housed in orphanages or even allowed to die after birth. Many Americans have tried to adopt children from other countries, but as soon as it becomes popular the money takes over and it becomes just another con for American dollars, with the children caught in the middle. Here in America where prevention is preached and abortions allowed the problem is less, but has not vanished. Adoption of children involves so many legal ramifications that many cannot afford it. In a world where the human population is fast outgrowing the earth's ability to support it something must give, the basic idea that everyone should be able to procreate must give way to proper selection, And just the thought of that creates many problems.

Indeed there are so many problems and who suffers? The unborn children or those who were delivered. It seems to be a no win solution. My mother bore a child out of wedlock and didn't marry the father. My father married her. My sister has been a big part of our family. We actually didn't know she was only our half sister until we were all grown.

this is such a sad story! i honestly have never heard of this sort of thing before but I'm guessing it happens more than we realize or would like to think. Some people get desperate when they get pregnant. Thinking they cant afford it, casnt take care of it, cant tell their parents... I know the doctor seems like it costs a lot of money but I bet it's less than what your life is worth. on the other hand, there are other options - like you said - for the baby other than abortion. But choice is the number one factor in this and it was her choice at the end of the day. We don't know her whole story so maybe there were other things in her life that made her make that decision. That didnt give her the option for birth or adoption. Although, it does make me very sad that there was no one in her life that she could turn to for help in this situation. no one that could help with the baby or even paying for the abortion. I dont know where she was located but i know here in canada, under specific circumstances, you can get your doctor to sign off on the abortion to be covered by healthcare. we should definatly educate and put out more exposure to all the options available to a pregannt woman but, again, at the end of the day it will be her choice. i hope this pill she took was banned.

Hi, The way some people tried to kill their babies has put them down below the level of animals. In the wild, animals don't practice it, rather, they go to great sacrifices in order to protect their babies even if it has to cost them their lives and had to do it alone. The lose of the sense of perpetuating their own kind is an indication of a system gone very wrong and should be corrected before large scale repercussions happen to everyone.

There are some male species that will kill off babies. I understand bears will. I know our dog killed all the kittens that were born.

that is very unfortunate incident for the girl. she should have talk to someone about it, to try to abort a fetus all by ourselves is a very dangerous thing, we'll never know what is going to happen to us..

And more should be published about this without saying who the person is so other girls may think twice before trying it. What was taken should be mentioned.

A lot of people loose their life, because they think that there is nobody to help them in their difficulties and pitfalls. We should honestly be a platform to guide these people.

Her great-grandmother worked with inmates all the time so I just don't know what went wrong with getting help. They should have known a lot of services that could have helped her.

I think we need to help girls find a route other than abortion. This poor girl probably thought she had no other choice. I understand there are people out there who really do not want a baby, or it is not a good time for them. But there are options!!!! Pregnancy takes less than a year. Girls should consider adoption before coming to the conclusion that they need to abort the baby. Abortion of course is a topic that will never be agreed upon.
