I am not going to wash the dishes tonight!

Both of my parents are sick with a flu and I had to do all the cooking - cleaning - house works, for the past few days! I have realised that it is too hard to do all that stuff for a whole family, today my hands feel dry from the dish washing every day. I usually clean the sink after dinner but tonight I was feeling tired so I decided to postpone it for later. Now I feel sleepy so I will leave the dishes for tomorrow morning! I have rinsed them with water and now I need to wash them properly tomorrow! I know it's a bad solution but I just want to apply some hand cream and go to sleep in a while!
Do you ever leave the dishes for the next day or you wash them right after you finish your meal?

Hi besweet, I can understand how you feel. Those are the works a mother does day in day out without ending and repeatedly. There are a lot to do. I hope your parents will recover soon and be in health!
I do not leave the dishes for wash the next day. Usually my hubby will do the dish washing after dinner. Those utensils and plates which I used in cooking will be washed up while I am doing my cooking. And there will not be a lot of dishes to wash as we have only a family of three.
I hope you will get enough of rest and proper sleep to begin a fresh day tomorrow!

It's a good practice to wash the dishes that you use while you are cooking! I was doing that when I was a student because I only had one pieve of everything in a shared kitchen. I had one plate, my salad bowl, one fotk and one spoon so I had to use them and clean them up while I was preparing the food! Life was easier back then!

Hello Besweet washing the dishes isn´t a lovely task, but we try to make it easy. I washed the dishes for almost 15 years, daily, day and night, I hate to leave them at night because of the cockroaches. In the last year, as we are facing financial debts I have to work and my family is organizing to wash the dishes. As you say it´s a very hard task for one person.
I hope your parents get better soon.
Blessings

Hello
Besweet you are right! I´m an elder member but not as active as many friends.
Oh yes you recalled me the morning "after"
. Yes I can recall how you can feel when you wake up and watch the dirty plates on the sink while preparing a breakfast. I forgot it.
I know you don´t like to wash pots, you remember me my mother, she hates to wash pots. So when she eats here she helps us to wash the dishes but she leaves us the pots. And one of my children helps us with the pots.
I love to wash dishes making many soap bubbles because I remember when I was 5 or 6 I loved to play with water. I imagine I´m building some fountains, and I challenge myself to set the dirty plates in columns so they can get wet while I wash the rest.
Yes! I use gloves, I love to use gloves always and I try to wash with my hands cold, I mean not after being typing or playing piano. I also love to drink my hot milk with coffee or chocolate while washing my dishes, this way I don´t get cold. My husband and my daughter, whom had begun washing dishes love to hear music while washing them.
I think that the worst of washing the dishes is feeling alone in the task, because everybody eats and one may begin wondering what would be fair and what unfair about this work victimizing, this is very dangerous. As I tell my children if work were pleasent it wouldn´t be called "work".
Best wishes!
Blessings

Haha :) I like the fact that you are calling it work! I can do the dishes with more pleasure than ironing for example, but it is still unpleasant if they are too many! Also, the water is too cold so I am turning on the water boiler before washing to get warm water or else my hands are freezing and I can't hold the plates! lol
I will get some gloves in my size next time because my mother's gloves are too big for me! Thanks for the advice :)
This morning I had some help from the family so it was kind of easier!
Enjoy your day!

Hi dainy! Thanks for your nice comment :)
I think I have never seen you around even though you are obviously an older member here! I haven't been around lately though!
I don't like leaving the dishes for the morning either, even though we don't have cockroaches in this house. I just like to wake up and find an empty sink when I am going to prepare my breakfast! Did you use gloves to protect your hands when you were washing them as part of your work? I am thinking about buying gloves because my hands look really bad today. I am sure that in the morning they will have healed though!
Have a wonderful day :)

The only time I ever leave the dishes for the next day is if there is only 2 things on the counter. I'm not going to wash them for 2 things so once it get's to be 5 or more things then I will go ahead and wash the dishes. I don't blame you for post poning until tomorrow though, I would feel drained as well. Hope you get some sleep.

You are a better house keeper than I am. I always let the dishes sit.

Sometimes, I am so tired my husband would wash the dishes. Well, if he will not do it, I will still do it because I do not want to leave things undone. So of course he got pity, because he knows I'm so tired already he will just do it.
I hope your parents get well already. Have a nice day!

My dad feels better but my mother is still sick from the flu. Thankfully, I didn't get the flu yet! I got some help as well yesterday and today I got gloves to protect my hands. I usually do a couple of dishes to help my mother but I never did the full set, so my hands became very dry from the water and the soap.

Never do that.. I guess my mom taught me to be that way. I just hate to get up t 415 am and see the dirty dishes. So I always do them with an hour of eating here.

Yeah, I know that it's not good to leave the dishes dirty in the sink all night! I rinsed them with water in order to leave them in a good condition for the morning. I am happy that I didn't have to wake up so early! You have a great schedule, I know that if you leave them for too late then we get bored so the best time to wash them is after dinner!

Good for you Besweet helping out your family like that you should be proud of yourself. It was good that you rinsed the dishes first as they will not be as hard to wash tomorrow. I am the type I always like to get my dishes sorted right after a meal. I do have a dishwasher but sometimes I do my pots and pans by hand and some of my "good dishes", but I have left them for the next day maybe twice that I can ever remember I just do not like to start the day with a sink full of dishes.

Thanks Laurenlynn! I am certain that we should get a dishwasher soon! It is a great help! I know that if the food dries on the plates overnight then it will be harder to clean them the next day! That is why I rinsed them with water and made sure that they were ready to be soaped. Thanks for your comment, have a great day!

Thanks! I bought a pair of gloves in my size today until my hands heal. I am also applying hand cream multiple times per day and it helps! I can see from the responses that most people do the dishes right after they finish dinner or a bit later, but they don't leave them for the next day! This is a good practice even though it might feel like a burden when we are tired after a long day!

I leave them as another family member does them but if I have to do them I get it done right away as here ants will come and make a party out of everything.
We have a dishwasher so don't have to wash all dishes by hand though.

You can use rubber gloves when you wash the dishes. So that detergent won't harm your hand. In fact i often use rubber gloves whenever i wash something such as dishes, clothes, etc..because i don't like my hand wet whole time when i do housework.
I never leave dishes till tomorrow morning because i will be so lazy to see it is there and wash it in the next day. I often wash it immediately

I think that doing the right after dinner is the best option! I need to get rubber gloves, my mother had an extra pair but they are too big for my hands and the dishes slip. I usually clean them without wearing gloves but because I am using warm water, my hands get soaked and then my skin feels dry for the rest day.

I always wash the dishes right after finish our meal because i am not comfortable seeing dirty plates in our sink which can attract insects and cockroaches. But if you already rinse your dishes and not feeling better to do the chore i think out take a break and rest, after all you can wash it early in the morning.

We really need a dishwasher in the family!
It is nice to leave everything clean and tidy and find them in order when you wake up in the morning. It needs some extra effort before going to sleep but then it feels great in the morning! That day my hands felt awful from the soap and the water and I needed to keep them out of the water for a while! Now everything is back to normal!

Hi ! That is just right , if one is tired then no need to force oneself . One need to rest because useless if work a task then brain not cooperating anymore , the result would not be good.Personally me? I can't sleep if the sink have some dirty kitchenwares.Though so very tired , i tried to clean everything in kitchen then sleep. It is alright to sleep provided your area is so safe and pest free place but if theres a tendency for rats to get in through the drainage , i guess it is a must for you to wash all dishes first then sleep later . This protects you and whole family. Pest loves to thrives in dirty things .

Hi friend, doing house works is so hard. Sometimes we cannot stay for a while, because there are many works that need to do. When my body was tired, I leave dishes for tomorrow, because I afraid that I get sick when too tired. I think it is normal, because everyone feel tired when work hard.

Doing housework can be extremely taxing and tiresome. I did dishes when I was living with my parents for 9 years, every night at 7:30pm sharp. My hands would get dry, and I would get incredibly tired of the job. But I managed to work out a system so that I would have a days worth done in 20 minutes flat, that was washing, drying and putting them away. And yes, I did them by hand. This was my chore, and I hated it.
Now I live on my own and I get my boyfriend to wash the dishes, and I dry and put them away because I have realized that after 9 years straight of doing them... the part I loathe the most was the washing (especially when they were not rinsed!).
But yes, get used to it if it is your chore. You will hate it. But it is a part of growing up. Wait till you live on your own.

I like washing the dishes, honestly. Sometimes I feel lazy but most of the time I'll volunteer so my parents don't have to worry since they both are tired from work.
I think it's okay to leave the dishes for the next day if you feel tired. If there's no reason to leave them for the next day, then I think it's better to wash them immediately.

I prefer to wash them immediately as well, I like to wake up and see a clean and tidy sink in the kitchen! But this time I couldn't do it, I was feeling really tired and we had a lot of dirty pots which is the worst for me comparing to the dishes and the cups!

Good choice! lol
I don't mind washing the dishes, I only hate the pots and the baking dishes. But this time, I have to make different food for my parents who need to have soup every day and another food for me and my brother who is spending some time with us this week! Imagine how many dishes and pots I have to clean afterwards!
