Do You Purchase Items From Dollar/Reject Shops?

Recently, I am getting fond of shopping at nearby dollar shops. We also call dollar shops 'reject shops' as some of the products they sell are rejected due to not having passed the manufacturer's quality standards. But one thing I was told by a friend of mine is that not all of their items are 'rejected' items, rather, lots of them are supplied by factories and manufacturers due to excessive production. They sell them to dollar/reject shops in a very low just to get rid of them. I think that shopping at these shops can really me heaps of money. For example, the 500ml of Head & Shoulders Shampoo made in France was sold by them at $5.50 Ausd, which I used to buy at $10.49Ausd at Coles Supermarket. Now I buy 1 liter of liquid Laundry soap at $1.90 which I used to buy at $2.20; Powdered Detergent 2kilos at $2.50 which I used to buy at $4.95. Do you like shopping at dollar/reject shops as well? Share us your ideas and stories. Thanks in advance for responding.

I love shopping at the dollar stores, it's amazing what you can buy for just $1.00 at the everything is $1.00 stores! We have a lot more stores in our area now that sell items for $1.00 and up, but usually everything is under $10.00. You can get some great deals at these discount stores. Your friend was right about manufacturers providing excess merchandise to the discount dollar stores, and in addition, I used to work for a large pharmaceutical company that actually supplied and packaged their regular products into discount packaging specifically for these discount dollar stores. So, the same products sold in a Walmart or elsewhere in the regular package were sold at the discounts stores at a cheaper price, and in generic packaging, but it was the same products. I love a deal, and you can usually find one at the dollar and discount stores!

Hi there. Even here in our suburb dollar shops and discount stores are multiplying in numbers. This was compared to the numbers of such stores 9 years ago when I first came here. Thanks for responding.

I absolutely love dollar stores! They are my favorite stores. :) It is true we can save a lot of money by going to them. I also like thrift stores as well. I don't care what others say about it, I enjoy saving money! With kids especially whenever I can save some money it is good. =)

I absolutely agree that with kids all we, moms, want and need to do is save every single cents we can. I think I'm just starting to really learn how to be wise with my purchases and saving a lot. Thanks for the response.

I shop thrift stores too, lovingmybabies. I also shop the second hand stores. IT is fun just to shop and not buy if there is nothing you need, but just knowing there might be or maybe something you like but can't find any where else. I have seen clothes with the original price tags on them at thrift stores!

I don't know what reject stores are, but I shop the Dollar stores all the time. They have name brand stuff there, current expiration dates....even food, frozen etc. So why not buy there? Hunt's is Hunt's no matter where you buy it. I just watch the expiration dates, and usually they are within 3-6 months so just rotate stock. I got a bag of limes for 99 cents, and I cut them into small slices/bites and freeze them, then take out a handful and put in a container in the fridge to use in my ice tea. But it is such a money saver to buy at dollar stores, and they just opened a new one..three times a large as before..and I am anxious to visit it!

I love Dollar Tree shopping. I spend $20 and I buy 20 different things there. I think this store is just great to keep you from going over a budget and just spending tons of money on same things.
