no plastic spoons and forks for me please....

I don't mean I don't use plastic spoons and forks when needed. What I mean is, whenever I buy take-out foods from these fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Jollibee or Chowking, I would always refuse to take out the plastic forks and spoons that always go with these take-out food. What for? There are real spoons and forks at home. In the past I did not mind bringing them home and keeping then for "future use" but I have realized that they only accumulate and never get to be used. They only add to my garbage and baggage. So now, I would always tell the clerks not to include plastic forks and spoons along with my take-out food. That way, I help the restaurant save some money, I also help the environment a little and I do not accumulate needless stuff in the house.

Most of the when we buy the take away food, the worker will not put in the plastic fork and spoon unless we asked for it. It is good to be environmental conscious by not taking the plastic spoons and forks if one is not using.

In our place it is always assumed that you need those plastic spoons and forks so they automatically put them inside the paper bag. I would also tell them to remove them.

That's awesome! You're a good citizen. I haven't thought of that. Normally I keep it for future use. Example is that when we'll be having visitors that we don't really know (Not a friend or relative but a friend of a friend). I also use those plastic spoons in scooping detergent powder, sugar, coffee, powdered juice, creamer and so on. For the forks, I use it when I want to feed my dog with some extra treats like a piece of meat as snack. On the other way around, I prefer using my own stainless spoon and fork when dining at a restaurant. We don't know how they wash those stainless fork and spoon. We don't know when was the last time they wash it or if they cover it when closing the restaurant. We don't know if some customers accidentally touched it part where we place the food and our mouth. We don't know that someone might coughed at it. We only wipe it with tissue when we use it right? I'm taking note of this.

I know what you mean! I used to have them when my children were young so they could used it for school lunches and now I just keep only a few in the car just in case I'm away somewhere and happen to need a spoon but otherwise I don't like to keep any at home! I don't like plastic at my table even when I have a big event I use proper cutlery and no paper plates please!

I do take home those plastic spoons and forks together with my takeaways. But after I reuse them a couple of times before I send to recycling center. I send plastics materials, newspapers and magazines for recycling. The recycling centers pay us for our effort to save our environment.

Yes, you have smart idea to help the restaurant save some money as well as keep your environment. I think accumulate needless stuff in the house is not good, it just make your home has some needless stuff. Thank you friend, I will apply your idea to keep our environment, although it is little. Have a nice day.

I totally agree with you. They just become garbage later on. I have had the same practice since I was in the university. Aside from refusing to bring home plastic spoon and forks, I also now carry with me a pair of spoon and fork and chopsticks everywhere I go. It does a lot of good because I don't need to use plastic spoon and fork whenever I eat out. I think, we have to do our own little things in order to help reduce garbage in our cities and also to help the environment replenish itself by reducing plastic consumption.

That is good idea my friend. You are helping our planet save from being like a garbage of all those plastic materials that will not be decayed for several decades.

Let's start it from ourselves and help educate people to follow our works. You start it and maybe I will follow soon

That is good I also refuse plastic spoons and forks for the reason that I do not use them anyway if we eat our take out at home. It is also my little way of helping the environment -- lessening garbage. Those are plastics and are surely very harmful if not disposed properly.

Hey! its a great thing to do. Yes, you are right on that. But sometimes if you want to take out foods from fast food chains, it doesn't mean you always have to bring it at home. Sometimes take out means you have to bring it at the office, or places where you can't find spoon and fork.. It think it depends on the situation. But I still agree with you about not having plastic spoon and fork when you would bring it at home.

I agree, if you really don't want to break your own spoon and fork. It's good to have both at home and in the office.

Well, I think offices should have proper spoons and forks there. Yeah, it depends on the situation. You might want to eat it in your car, so yes, you need spoons and forks there.

I have never liked to use them. Im not sure why. I have feared they are clean at times, maybe thats why.

No, I don't think they are clean either. Sometimes they drop to the floor and the workers just pick them up and put them back where they keep them.

when i eat out, i choose places that have metal spoons and forks and washable plates. i don't take out food but i'll remember your idea because it's one good habit we can all practice to help minimize plastic and styrofoam usage. however, i will always accept or even ask for extra catsup because i just love tomato catsup!

Hi Here! Yes, always instruct the food attendants to not include in the take-out those plastic utensils. They usually just put them inside the paper bag without saying anything. We have to instruct them.

but sometimes they forget, too. like when we have deliveries to the office, sometimes there's no spoon and fork, sometimes there's no condiments.

I want to thank you for what you do. :) That does help the environment, and the environment certainly needs all the help it can get. Maybe I'll tell my parents to do this as well the next time we order take-out food. We never thought of it before.

Hey Xtreme, don't throw them away, just don't bring them or ask for them. When they give you those plastic spoons and forks, just refuse instead of bringing and then throwing them away.

Yea i know. You right , i'm against wasting. I don't ever ask for them they just sometimes put them in. Sometimes a use rubbish to make things. I can make something from something others can't even imagine could be used :) Enjoy your day hun

You have done a good job by refusing the the plastic fortks and spoons. Well, this is a good practice and logical too. What is the point of taking them home and using it and in the end, all ended in the trash. At least, you are helping to make the environment better with less of these disposal.

I think this practice will have a huge impact on the environment and the economy if all those who take-out food will do this.

Don't you find the food tastes different when you eat it with plastic spoons compared to the cutlery you use at home? I tend to be too heavy handed with the plastic forks and spoons I get given, they snap, and yes I used to bring them home too, same with those straws, I would take two or three straws, use one and the rest would go in the cutlery draw back home.

You are so right Wolfie. The taste of food changes and also eating using those is a bit hard because they bend, etc. So why have them?

So, you buy stuff that undermines your health from restaurant chains that have horrendous environmental practices, and you think that skipping the plastic utensils will "help the environment a little?" Yeah...

I just can't help but buy them since I seldom cook at home. These restaurants are now trying to improve their practices like using small boxes and paper bags for take-outs, etc.

Same here. Although i seldom eat on fastfood, whenever I did and take out the food, I would really refuse plastic utensils. Well, based on my observation, most fastfood restaurants are not anymore using plastic, they just reserve these plastic utensils for take out orders. Let's do our part in preserving mother earth. Have a nice day!

Hahaha we are so opposite friend ! I bring all the plastic spoons and forks at home because i saved it for outdoor hangouts or for long trip activity. It is practical to recycle it than bringing a set of utensils when in trip. In this way we can help environment and at same time we can save little.
