My labrador has gained so much weight already that people who see him get shocked by his size. He looks like a cow with his size. I've read somewhere that it is not good to have overweight pets because obesity will also cause them health problems just like people. So now I am starting to limit his food. I used to give him plenty of food per eating. Now, I only have a little milk and a small piece of bread for him in the morning. At lunch and dinner, the amount of food I now give him is already lessened and I can already see the progress. He has already lost some weight based on how big he is.
Have you ever had obese pets? What did you do about it?

Yeah u did the right thing by reducing his diet otherwise he would have grown oversize and that would have adversely affected his health. Besides do not cut his food to such an extent that it would starve his only, try to give him a balanced and healthy diet which is very important.

yes giving balanced diet is really important we should not starve it on the name of diet otherwise the poor creature will feel bad and may become sad.

maybe it's not how much your feeding him, but what. maybe you should not give him so much human food, like milk and bread. also, talk to your vet about what is a good dog food to put him on, since he is overweight.

My ex partner and I had four cats, and one of them, Edward was an obese cat! He used to not only gobble up his own food but would pinch the other 3 cats's food, and not content at that, we had a a neighbour come round to tell us that Edward was going through their cat flap and was pushing their cats out of the way to get to their food, well I was embarrassed. The vet gave us some special cat food for him and advised us to keep him away from the other cat's food, so we had to get an indoor cage to put Edward in, it was heartbreaking as he couldn't understand it why the other cats had run of the house and he was in the cage, his pitiful cries, but we had to do it for his own good.

We have some problems with our dog's weight, too.
She is a big eater and she would eat (almost) anything. That's why we have to be very careful with the amount of food she eats.
From what I've learnt from my wife, bread make dogs put weight very fast.
So maybe you would like to change her diet with something more healthy: beans, peppers, carrots and some low fat yogurt.

We have never had overweight pets. I have seen pets so big they can hardly work. I remember when our saint was a baby she would eat until her belly couldn't fit anymore, but she doesn't eat like that anymore that she is grown.

Being a pet owner means accepting responsibility for their well-being, and allowing them to overeat is cruel

My neighbour has a labrador too and it is a huge dog. The dog is obese too, so they took him to the vet for evaluation. We humans like to treat our dogs as family. My neighbour buys burger for the dog as treats. According to the vet, dogs are not suppose to eat human food. It is best to feed them with dog food only. The dog also needs more exercise as it is a huge dog. They are walking the dog twice a day now.
