Hi there myLotters! Earlier, I just read somewhere and I come across with this topic. Try to admit it, we went to school just to get a degree and we're damn so excited to finish our studies. But, Do we really learn from it? Did we study by heart? Or we just learn and forget what we have learned? As for myself,I studied very hard just to get a degree and was so in a hurry to finish, Yet I end up being useless. I haven't practiced my profession. What I'm currently doing right now is to grab a book and enjoy what I am reading.

good day to you craziestqueenever, with reference to your topic, indeed finishing a good college degree will give you more chance to be employ. and in order to gain a college degree, one must be good in his/her academic subjects like Math, Science, and the likes. hence, finishing a college degree is tag as formal education. and you are right, a formal education is needed though having a self-education is necessary.

I do believe that formal education is important for us to get to see different systems. From these systems, we choose which one fits us the most. Then we can go out into the real world learning it on our own. The world is an open university but better grab some tools before taking a plunge. It is always better to be equipped.:)

It's true.Education is not all that matters, what's more important is self motivation to learn.I always appreciate those people who are not well educated but who are knowledgeable and full of wisdom. Experience is the best teacher we can have.It does not matter where you graduated, what's matters most is how much we fill our brains.

Yes u are absolutely right, formal education, no doubt is important in life but what is most important is self education which requires no training, fees or instructions, all it needs is personal anticipation to learn things from whatever we see and in a positive way, we cannot get to learn everything from the books, there are something that r to be learned from outside the books as well.

You're correct. Sometimes, we learn also from experience.

And why should these two be separate in the first place? That says a lot about the existing educational system that is not aimed at learning but at getting a job. I say it does not have to be separate, you can get self educated about the things that are being taught to you. One can question teachers, one can learn more about the topics beyond what is being taught, one can relate it to other subjects and not let it be a limited experience of just passing. Learning is unlimited, it is only us that choose to limit ourselves by choosing to be complacent and going along with everybody else.

Self education is essential, that's right. The think that needs to be understood is motivate ourselves. How good the school and teacher, when we do not have any motivation to study it is useless. Education can be done everywhere and every time, not only in formal education. But the certificate from formal education is also badly needed to find a good job. So, we have to do both, formal education with self education

The development of the brain also should be taken into consideration when exploring the possibilities of self education at a young age. The brain accepts certain things when you are in school and you would feel strange now when you think how you conducted yourself in that manner during your younger days.

true I can`t say I learned much from school if i think about it everything i learned till now was all self-education .....why ? basically cuz schools are designed under one system that doesn`t allow each student to find exactly what he excels in or to enjoy the subject he is learning we are all learning the very same book in the very same old methods we memorize for one purpose (exams). however at home when you search on how to learn something it`s because you yourself want to learn it so in the end what you taught yourself will remain but what u learned at school will disappear
