Companies usually gives commissions to those who help buy or sell their products, either it is a house or vehicle. Even when you take people who want to spend the night at the hotel, hotel owners give you tips, too. Does giving commissions or tips also apply to the selling or buying of a house or vehicle done by individuals who sells the house because they needed money badly. I remember putting an add when I wanted to sell my house. I wrote: "House For Sale Without intermediaries" meaning that I don't want to give any tips to those who inform buyers. The problem is that sometimes they determine the rate of the commission or tips--2 or 3 % of the sale price. When I sold the house, I know and remember that someone introduced me to a buyer. She came to my house with the buyer. Of course, I wanted to give her a little money because it was her who gave info on my house being for sale. What I don't like is that she demanded a certain amount of money, which to me was a big amount. What's your take dear mylotter? How much should I have given her?

Well, it really depends usually the middle person negotiates first to the sellers and discuss the percentage of on top of it's regular price that's what commission comes from not from the original price itself, it will be unethical for the middle man to demand beyond the commission being negotiated from, normally it's from 3% up to 10% the largest from it's cost of the product

That's right. If the middle man wants commissions, he or she should negotiates first about how much he or she will get. In my opinion, a middle man not only meet buyers with sellers but also inform whoever wants to buy a house. There should be some kind of work he or she does as a middle man.

Realtors have set amounts that are entered into the contracts as commissions for selling your home. If you sign up with them and another realtor actually sells the house to their client and not from the realtor you signed on with they have to share the commission. The main realtor gets 2/3 or 1/2 for listing the property and the one who actually sells the house gets what is left for the actual sale. That commission is also split between the company they work for and the realtor who did the showing, got the contract for the sale and did the paperwork. If you sell you home on your own then there are no commissions to deal with. You get the whole amount asked for minus whatever mortgage payments are still due on the property. When you think of the amount it is high as far as commissions go but it is split between several people in the organization. On the other hand doing it yourself saves you tons of phone calls, being home whenever someone wants to look at the property and dealing with all the paperwork with the bank and you'll also need to hire a lawyer to keep it all legal and ensure the sale is legit and you and your investment is safe too. In the long run it is worth what they want - a lot less hassle since they handle everything from the listing, showing, paperwork, bids, taxes, inspections, surveys, deed and lien appraisals, payment to the mortgage company, commission to whomever is handling it plus a bunch of other things that seem to need to be handled when a home is sold. There are also different rules if the buyer is a veteran and wants to buy the house on their VA bill. Then you have to deal with the government agency too and it can all get very complicated. Then again it is always your choice!

From what I often hear from my sister in law who is also into selling of properties, she gets a 1% commission from the amount of the property sold. I am not aware is that is the SOP, but that is what she has told me before when she was convincing me to sell lots in Rizal.

Hi, I am taking the help of middlemen in selling my house. Because we are staying far away from our house which we want to sell. I can't find buyers by sitting here and due to my work. I have to bear the loss of commission. No option. But selling house without intermediaries is very advantageous for us.
