I am a fan of cyberpunk anime. So far I have seen: Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, Akira. Out of these 4 my favorite was Serial Experiments Lain. I think I liked it a lot because I could related to it quite a bit, since a lot of stuff involved in it was quite well-known and familiar to me, besides that it let me think about very philosophical things. I also have learned a lot more about various topics, that I didn't know about before.

I'm not much into cyberpunk animes. The one so far that I did watch was code geass, if that is considered cyber punk? I am more interested in the pizza the green haired girl eats rather than the robots and the fighting.

By your definition, I can imagine AI(movie), cowboy bebop, apple seed, escaflowne and more. I am not fond of them, but I do know a little about some of them. ^_^

I see, I guess I should try out Cowboy Bebop, since it's considered a classic. Could you tell me about the plot?

Mecha is not counted as cyber Punk right? I love battle Angel Alita, that anime is the inspiration of the Street fighter character Cammy. Thats how influential that anime is. I love the 90's version of Bubble gum crisis,Its the first female protagonist action series I appreciated, I love Macross- As a little kid in the 90's who is watching that 80's anime on its reruns, I really thought the technology in year 2000 will be that hi-tech.... (that anime is set in year 2000 to 2011) Imagine how disapointed my grown up version is because the real year 2000-2011 didnt develop such technology.

2003 to be specific, Most people in the 50's to 80's over-hyped year 2000 as something uber futuristic. i am a 90's kid who get to watch 50's to 80's stuff, so imagine how excited was in 1999. Then nothing happened. No flying cars, No space robots. Well at least we get ipads.

I also recall that astroboy was also said to be set on year 2000, but reality did not come out as awesome.

I like cyberpunk. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Battle Angel Alita, Appleseed, Animatrix, Blame!, Ergo Proxy. My favorite is definitely Akira. I've seen the movie and I've read the first 3 of 6 manga volumes but it's gonna take a while till I finish it because I want to read it on paper and it's somewhat hard to find and pretty expensive. I'd recommend you to check out Ghost in the Shell series, Stand Alone Complex, if you haven't already. It's really good. The only cyberpunk anime I've seen and didn't like was Ergo Proxy. I haven't seen Serial Experiments Lain or Jin-Roh.

From the setting it seems to be cyberpunk. Though I am not sure how dark and grim world is.
