Everything happens for a reason? Or not?

We hear this expression often. "Everything happens for a reason?" my answer is maybe, whatever the truth of this matter is, the problem is we can only make that statement with hindsight. You never hear that all was prodicted before the action took place. Sure somethings are prodictable, like if we declare war, we know mayham and death will result, but do we know how many advances in science and medicine will be made? No of course not. This is just a small example. But then we must explore all of our actions, even the small ones, like brushing our hair, or picking the cloths to wear, what would happen if I did this now or one hour from now. You can see that this would soon drive you crazy and nothing would get done. Well, do you believe, maybe? Sometimes? Only big important things? What about timing? Lot's of thoughts here?

Hi savypat, You make a very good point but I've come to believe that all thing happen for a reason. I am also convinced that all things happen for the best. Most people find this one a bit hard to swallow but of course no one has to accept it. It's just the conclusion that I've come to after years of contemplation. Blessings.

Hi GDTimothy, Sorry if I've upset you. I don't like the things you mention any more than you do but it's the conclusion that I've come to. There is much about life that we don't understand and we are slow learners - so history keeps repeating itself. If this one lifetime is all there is, then I agree with you but I think there is much more than we can see at the moment. Blessings.

When I was younger, I always did think that there was really a reason for everything that happened in our lives to happen. However as I've gotten older, I've experienced a lot of things in my life that try as I might I'm not even able to find a reason that these things happened, even in retrospect. So while I do think that a lot of things that happen in our lives happen for a reason, I also think that there are some things that happen in our lives for which there is no explanation at all.

Accidents happen because they do. Certain elements of life have come together in a particular way,and time, with particular results that are unfortunate for you. Yet in the end, they may not be unfortunate at all, given the agenda of your soul. There is no Coincidence, and nothing Happens by 'Accident.' You call each event to yourself, in order to create and experience who you really are. This is why all true Masters remain unperturbed in the face of the worst experiences of life! ~ from Conversations with God, by Neale Donald Walsch ~

I agree it is "maybe" some are predictable and some are not - but still there is a reason if we look behind. Why there is war, why a certain country or kingdom declares war (absolutely there is a reason) About timing- that is one thing to remind us that certain things are beyond our control.

I agree, maybe when it's not happening for a reason it's just a consequence from our own actions unrolling and that we take longer to realize. Have a great week!

If everything happens for a reason, then I want to know What's The Reason? One can always make up reasons up after the fact, I suppose, but still, I would ask what the particular reason is. In other words, I don't go for it at all. Yes, hindsight is always 20/20. So, for me, the statement that everything happens for a reason, is just ridiculous. On the other hand, technically speaking, all things do indeed happen for a reason: it's called cause and effect. Scientifically, there is always a cause for everything, so whatever happens has a cause. And that cause could be considered The Reason. Just my 2 cents.

That is why I questioned myself the other Monday when I went out to get my bus and the driver was someone I knew from 18 years ago, and all I kept thinking about afterwards when I was at the gym, was what if I had caught the earlier bus or the later bus I would have missed him, and they are only 15 minutes apart, I could have easily of caught the 1.30pm bus but waited around for the 1.45. As you said it would drive you crazy, and more some. I was actually beating myself up about it about getting that bus and giving him my number! Even a space of a minute can change things, how do we know what might have happened unless of course we have a parallel universe which we can view and find out if that earlier bus would have prompted a different chain of events.

I have heard that saying many times in my life. But I cannot be totally sure if it is true. Look, most things that we do are by choice. Or we make a decision about doing something. We are not always right about the choices we make. So some things can happen as a result of that millisecond thought we had. And I think that's where the saying comes from. That's just my opinion.

For me, I do believe that everything happens for a reason and that's it. I don't really question much on the why or what if's. Because what's done is done. We may not understand it at exactly the time that it happened but sooner or later, we'll realize why somethings happen and why somethings don't occur.

We do always use this because we may be believe in this or we are just consoling ourselves because things did not happen the way we expected or wanted. It is fine to believe in this since there is also an underlying truth about it.
