Relatives from Abroad

Last night, my uncle from the US came home in the Philippines after 9 years. We had a welcome party at home with other relatives where we cooked Filipino dishes that he surely missed - mostly grilled fish and pork. We're also planning on going out of town since it's been a while since he last visited our province. It was really fun, reminiscing about our younger years and laughing our hearts out as we listen to the stories. It was surely a weekend well spent :) What about you friends? What do you usually do when your relatives from abroad came back to the country? :)

That's a good way of welcoming him back after all his hardwork. I'm sure your dad will love the welcome party you're going to give him :)

August is still a long way. You have at least 3 months to prepare :)

Every time my sisters come home, We usually panned for out of town vacation for 3 to 5 days preferably in a nice resort, we see to it that every member of the family is available in that out of town vacation...Other than that, we usually go on beaches nearby our house, we visit our other relatives, and my sisters really love to go malling, eating and go shopping...FUN .. FUN.. FUN.. I'm excited for their next vacation.

We do that too :) That's why I love it when some of my relatives go home because it means we're going on a vacation. It's good enough reason to rest and take a break once in a while :)

Relatives and friends from alien lands can sometimes become overbearing because they try, one way of another, to condescend the Philippines either by boasting about the country they had been from or criticizing the flaws they see in us. When that happens, I put them in place, and make them feel disgusted with their own selves, when they realize that they are violating the old adage adage Ang hindi lumingon sa pinaggalingan..... Then, I play nicety and boast Cabalen and Max's and Barrio Fiesta, show them High Street and Eastwood and Centris, bring them to universities and churches and the public market. We eat and have a good laugh, and we love each other again.

We do that too :) At least to show that even if we're not as developed compared to the other countries, there are still a lot of places we can be proud of :) Although my uncle doesn't really complain much about the Philippines except for the weather. He said he does miss the country :)

Hi ayeesha! I think this kind of gathering is common in our country whenever our relative from other countries come home. This only shows that we want to be part of the success of anybody from our family. This also shows our closeness to one another. Enjoy your summer!

We will so happy and spend our time by share each other our stories and go to some where to remember our memories. Usually we also escort them to the my other family that cannot meet them in our house. And of course my house be noise and full with laughs. Yes, I think it is a special moment. Have a nice day, friend.

The house is noisy too, with all those drinking and karaoke and eating and full of people. But it's really fun because celebrations like doesn't happen very often. Have a nice day too!

Almost all my relatives, uncles and aunts, live in the Middle East. Moreover, my dad's working in Dubai while his mother, my lola, lives in Hawaii. We also practice what you've been doing with "balikbayans". Cooking all Filipino foods they missed or favorites. Then touring them to places of memory, of nature, of leisure and of relaxation.

I do think that it's very common to Filipinos to do that every time a relative from abroad comes home :) It only shows how closely-knitted Filipino families are :)

Yes, we do that too. We try to give them a good celebration to welcome them home. There will always be schedules of going to the beach or eating somewhere with a "native" feeling because they miss those sorts of stuff. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

That's right, since life abroad is totally different compared here. And the area where my uncle lives, they're the only Filipinos there so he did miss how it is to be in the Philippines :)

You don't have to have relatives from abroad in order to bond with your other family members. It's good to know that some of them are still making time, visiting your hometown. And the way you describe it, it does sound like you're having a blast every time your relatives visit :)

Me too. It's always a fun celebration, bonding with the family, eating lots of food, going out of town :) We usually stay in the province when some of our relatives go home and I love it there. Everything is so different compared to the metro.

Many years ago my brother's family from Australia (he is PR there) came home to visit us . We arranged many nice places for them to visit and shopping as well. Having a nice meal with them is for sure. We brought them to the restaurant instead of cook ourselves as it is more convenient . It is a good gathering with all the family members as well. We really had a good and memorial time !

Initially, my mom wanted to bring my uncle in one of the popular restaurants in the metro. But since we're a really big family and it's going to cost her some amount of money, she decided to just have a home-cooked meal. Plus, it's cheaper :) And I'm glad you had a a grand time with your brother's family :)
