I have seen people giving negative and positive opinions about movies. Some say that movies effects the society as a whole, some say movies are spoiling young generation, some say movies can be very inspiring and i learnt a lot from them. Which movie/movies changed your perception about anything? which movie/movies inspired you? which movie/movies you think were damaging to the society or you think movies are just for fun and should not be taken seriously at all.

Of course there are a handful of movies which have influenced me. The one Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and then later Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam have had great influence on me. (both are Indian movies). There are a few from Hollywood too but I guess, the Schindler's List does stand apart for me. Most of the movies are for fun but then there are a few who have some substance and it is all upto our minds, our knowledge as to what and how much to take from them

We seem to have quite similar preferences when it is about movies. The 12 angry men is another favorite of mine. It speaks about the fact that if you have confidence in yourself and you know that you are right and others wrong, you can and will be able to persuade the wrong to get correct if you have dedication and persuasion qualities. A terrific movie. The one thing I learned from DDLJ was - that anything can be won if you are honest and committed to what you aspire. Have patience and the goodness and you will surely overcome the hurdles. And from that Hum Dil... I learned that true love means - the happiness of the one whom you love and not your own happiness.

I have seen DDLJ ,though i have not see Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.DDLJ is good ,it has shades of Its a Sure thing and Harry met Sally. Scindlers list is one of my favorite movie,i love it like i love 12 Angry Men and Casablanca.Yes i agree movies are for fun but one can learn from them too.I learned a lot from Pursuit of Happyness. Thanks a lot for your response.

You are right about similar preferences.Adding to what you said about 12 Angry Men is that ,this movie tells us twelve common kinds of approach people have during everyday lives. That can be very helpful for those who are not social. You see a guy who just opposes the verdict decided by 11 other men because he believe nothing should be decided without discussion, one of them is angry on young generation because of bad experience with his son,one guy is just passing time and not taking anything seriously because he wants leave early to watch a match, one guy has no firm opinion on anything, one hates the poor people who come from slums and believes that they are all criminals, one of them unleashes his quality of observation with a little support and so on.We see such people with such nature everyday.

Hi grvdubey: It really depends both on the film and the audience at the same time. Some films are good and inspiring, some are just entertainment and there are a number of films that are just trash. But you can't blame the film. It depends on the audience. The audience must be mature to take what it's good for them and inspire them to improve and leave the rest. Last film that touched me and inspired me was "Precious" based on a novel. I totally recommend that film. ALVARO

I have not seen Precious, though i have it in my collection, dont know how i missed it,thanks for recommendation.About movies, i agree, blame should not be directed there. But we see people overreacting at times, in my country Da Vinci Code had to face lot of opposition in some parts ,many other films had to face similar anger.I think its good to learn but bad to follow blindly. Thanks a lot for your response.

A great man once said that we can learn from everything. So movies are fun but some are inspiring and some give answers to questions with no answer.

That's a really nice question you have asked... I feels that it does but talking about negative or positive. It totally depends on you. Whenever I watch any motivational movies, i does things positively. I fills us with positive energy.

If it some kind of inspirational or true story, it would probably change my perception if my perception needed to be changed or to be more open. Sometimes Hollywood also butchers the whole story especially some remakes. I'd have to say overall I watch them for entertainment, mostly action movies, sci-fi, adventure. I don't like romantic movies because it's so full of crappy extensions from romance novels.

Very good point, true stories presented in form of entertaining movies does effect and inspire people. We may skip some news or documentary calling it boring but many will see it if its in the form of a entertaining movie. Thanks a lot for your response.

hi there well depends on the story being shown to us. if quiet convincing or if you sense it positive effects, why not try the idea to improve us by any means as for our being. surely, in a movie it is being rated depends on a level or type of movie. if the concerning agency required parents to guide the children when they view parental guidance movies, then parents should be there to assist their children and to answer questions being raised by them. for all we know, watching movies have positive and negative views, so we must be careful. movie media has a great influence to our youngsters or even to the society.

Ok that's interesting ,so people actually use the ideas they see in movies to change themselves.About children i agree, they have deep effect of their surroundings and that includes movies which they see. Thanks a lot for your response.

movies are a reflection how a society is. if you want to know about a particular society then watch the movies of that society. on the other hand movies also do affect the society but i feel that impact will only be a short lived one. movies cant make long term impact. why i am saying so is because if movies can change the perception of peoples in a society then we how many movies have been released against corruption, against murder, against terrorism, etc. have all these things have stopped occuring. the answer would be a big no. yes if i watch a movie which shows how bad corruption is ruining a society then after watching the movie for few days do to the impact of the movie i will think "oh yes i should not bribe anyone and i should stand as a role model for others" but as time pass buy that feeling disappears from me and i again return to my routine normal life. so the fact of the matter is that. movies do have an impact in the minds of the people but the impact is only short lived.

That's a good point, movies have effect but its short term.Just like many people start exercising when Olympics are on, and that excitement goes after few days.I would like to meet those people though who claim that some movie turned their life,it would be very interesting to know how they did that. Thanks a lot for your response.
