Chickens in Sims 3!!!!

I rarely buy items from the sims 3 store, I did buy some stuff to be added on my game but I dont buy female hairs (custom female hairs are better for me) and some reskins of items that is already on the game. Then out of sudden they added chickens! I am disappointed though that we wont be allowed to kill virtual chickens for food because EA dont want to offend vegans (LOL Sims can kill and eat frogs, crocodiles, sharks and goldfishes for food but not chickens) from what I read,you dont need sims 3 pets to make chickens work. The purpose of the chickens in the game is to provide eggs, you can also cuddle them like cats and dogs, and play with kids. Children and adult sims can play them. I am still not sure if I will add chickens in my game (I would have added it in my game quickly if our sims were allowed to eat the chickens) I am so confused because I am saving money to buy Sims 3 University and I am in a dilemma which I wanted more in my game, A university or those chickens.
