Ashamed To Be British....

April 10, 2013 11:48pm CST
I have always thought that being British, made us different from the rest of the World. Granted we can come across as a little odd and it can seem as though we are laughing at a private joke. We have always had so much to be proud of... We invented the Modern World thanks to the Industrial revolution. Our justice system became the blueprint across the world. I could go on. However in recent days, I find myself ashamed of my nation. Lady Thatcher died on Monday - she was 87 and she was suffering from dementia. She died of a stroke. The scum element of the UK had death parties to celebrate her death - looting and violence ensued. The is also a Facebook campaign to get the song - "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" to number one in the charts... it currently stands at number 10. I could talk about how she improved the UK. I could tell you how Britain was controlled by the Trade Unions before she came to power. I could tell you about pre thatcher power cuts and how we would eat our meals by candlelight. We all accept that she divided the country and families in opinion, but she was an old woman. She died and we were always told to be respectful of the dead. We lead by example and our children learn from watching and listening to us... What are we teaching our offspring? Welcome to the UK, the Scum Capital of the World

It is a shame that people cheer and celebrate as such when others die. I find disrespecting others' deaths to be one of the most disgusting things people can do, even when the people were monsters, so to speak. There are always going to be scum wherever you go, unfortunately. People rioting over sports, people raping women for wearing clothes that show skin, and people doing what those did in Britain. She of course wasn't a perfect person, and made mistakes. But she also did things to improve the country. People will just complain about whatever they can these days it seems. Even so, you shouldn't be ashamed to be British for this, as you did not take part in it and I'm sure you don't condone such actions. You can't control what other people are going to do, but you can try to better the world around you.

I agree entirely. The reaction of a small but vociferous minority of incredibly stupid people besmirches whatever good name we might have. I felt strongly that she was not what we wanted by the end of her incumbency but she managed to right us after decades of inept leadership by both major parties. Bizarrely, most of the pictures that I have seen of the 'revellers' are of people that are barely old enough to remember her as PM and in many cases not even born until afterwards. She was not God and she pushed through policies that impacted negatively on many. However, her passing deserves to be marked with dignity not, as you say, by allowing ourselves to become the Scum Capital of the World.

In fact the behaviour of the rabble has impacted on us. The Boss has resigned her TU membership because the leadership refused to condemn the rabble! UNISON are one less today.

I don't think it reflects poorly on y'all as a nation or a people. For me personally, I know these idiots well. It reflects on them. It's these same wanna-be-famous morons every country has that accept their marching orders.

@Materfish - When did the minority view become important and voiced and reported more than the Majority view? @P1kef1sh - yes I have seen the kids and I believe that this is just another excuse to cause trouble. I am disgusted in what we have become.

Don't be ashamed to be British. Look, every culture has those radicals that think different from everyone else. Especially here in the USA. If anyone should be ashamed of being anything, it should be us here in the USA. The government here, although we have a great guy at the helm, is in shambles. His hands are tied do to the right wing. The government here has become somewhat of a circus. So, don't let those morons change your mind about your country.

There are many things that don't get reported beyond a regional level in the UK, Jowever more and more news stories are about the scum or vermin that make up a small percentage of any nation - They have the voice and politicians have to appease the scum first - The fact that the vermin is allowed to breed and vote pisses me off

That really rude they should have respect her I guess it only shows that many are narrow headed and still focus negative things rather than the good effect in return

Hi Rob I find this very sad we should be more respectful, I did not know much about her other than she was Prime Minister of England. How sad she had dementia (I took care of dementia people for many years) it is a terrible disease. You have no need to be ashamed that you are British there will always be rude hateful people no matter what country you are from, England is one of my dream countries to visit one day be proud who you are always.
