I'm currently on a study abroad program in London and i realised that because of the cold and being very undisciplined, i gained about 6kg in 3 months. This is extremely terrible as i see my tummy bulging, my thights getting fatter and my arms are flabbier too. I am in for a diet and am planning to eat lesser. If you have done a diet before, i would like some advice because i realise that i can no longer wear some of my pants and summer is coming which means i need to shape up ;)

We don't need to starve ourselves. Just get rid of animal products & we can eat as much of an organic plant-based diet as we want without putting on the pounds. It's important to balance our diet of vegetables, fruits, legumes, seeds, grains & nuts. It's just as important for us to learn how to prepare our foods properly when we eat whole foods.

Hi, I went suddenly vegan on December 3, 2000, but went through the usual 'veggy'ish' phase from age 19. I've been 100% raw since August 2011. I'm not here to judge, but I would like to say that both the dairy & egg industries do enormous harm to animals, which you might like to read about online, or I can give you specifics if you wish or still have questions. I'm sorry to hear your vegan friends have such little strength. This is common when we haven't learned how to prepare our foods correctly or fail to balance our diets. Some of the best body-builders in the world are 100% vegan, some of them 100% raw vegan & none take supplements (me neither, but I ain't no body-builder - it's genetics). There are some good MyLot discussions on these topics.

Suddenly went vegan? that's kind of cool. Actually i have wanted to be a vegetarian but then it's kind of difficult because my family members all eat meat and I have once expressed my thoughts on going vegetarian but my mum was quite against it. I do understand that it's not a good thing to eat animals and that i totally agree wtih you that even the dairy and egg industries do a lot of harm to animals. Is it about animal rights that you decided to go vegan?

Hey veganbliss . from your nickname, i see that you are a vegan. Are you a vegan since young or did you choose it yourself? For me, i'm not a vegan and i don't think i will ever be one. However, i doknow the benefits of being a vegetarian because we do not harm animals and we have lesser caloriers too. however, i feel like my friends around me who are vegan they seem to have very little strength and so i want to remain strong

Hey. thank you there very muchfor your advise. I have tried doing sit-up, but i have no motivation to continue doing sit-up. Furthermore, i always feel hungry and keep craving for more food. i think this is just a matter of self-discipline and i really need to start controling myself and stop making excuses.

You are smart to realize that you have to stop gaining weight. It is particularly hard for someone who is new to a country and wants to try all the local foods. I don't know if you eat in a cafeteria or live in a residence where you can cook your own meals. The important thing is to make a concious effort to stay away from high calorie, high fat fast foods. Have you had a hamburger or fish and chips English style? good, now you have tasted it so you must go back to eating more stir fries with a litlle rice, meat fish and lots and lots of green leafy vegetables. If you can make your own soups, make a big pot and freeze some in small containers. If you eat in the cafeteria stick to salads with vinegar and a little oil. Eat only broiled meats and fish, not fried. Stay away from most deserts, they are full of sugar and fat. Take an apple instead. Excercise does not have to cost anything if you are on a budget. Walk a mile or more a day. There are beautiful parks in London. If no park is nearby, residential areas are also fun to walk in and mostly safe places. Walk during the day and enjoy the budding flowers, leaves popping out and birds singing. You will feel good and your weight will stabelize or drop.

Hey linda, thank you so much for your advise. It's really information and encouraging at the same time. Exactly it's hard because i just want to try so many food here. ANd you are right, now that i have eaten and tried the English food, that's good enough and i should stay away from it. Yes, i'm currently staying in a flat where i have access to the kitchen, so i occassionally prepare my own meals. I like your idea about making about a big pot of soup and then keeping it. that really sounds good! You are right, i'm actually just making excuses for myself. exercise can be free. even if i do not have track shoes, there's no excuse for not exercising. Even walking about is good enough. there are beautiful park near where i live and i really need to take advantage of it :) Thank you very much for your advise. I can't walk to lose my weight and feel confident again :)

do not eat too much food rich in carbohydrates. do not skip meals for this might slow your metabolism and you will crave as you dine because of hunger. drink plenty of water before having breakfast, this would eliminate toxins or dirt inside your body. eat juicy fruits. another one is lessen the intake of too much sweet foods and sodas. after eating, do not sit for this might make your tummy with love handles in it. after eating, another tip; do not drink cold water for this might make the oily be frozen and will transform into fats. and of course, do appropriate workouts for you. hope you can get or this is sensible for you :)

I am losing my weight too. I eat very little for dinner. After dinner, usually I will have a walk outside for half an hour. This make me feel comfirtable for my stomach. Now I eat little for dinner not only for losing weight, also for healthy. For breakfast and lunch, I will eat to 80 percent full. BTW, it is helpful to eat more vegetables and fruit.

Hey alisatan, thank you for your reply. You are right, it is definitley better to eat more veggies and fruits as they are better for our body. It's good to eat only until 80% full. Research have shown that we should not eat until 100% full because it is not good for our stomach. thank you :)

I have never taken a diet in my 24 years of life. I ate a lot of things which i think is tastier for me. I have never get fattier too. That may be because I do regular exercises, play and go to gym etc. Even if I didn't do all these things and eat all day long, I don't get fattier. I think it is because of my body type. It's all about the type of body one is having. One may get fattier even without taking any foods. Therefore my motto is that eat and enjoy life till you can. Rest everything leave it to almighty.

I'm 22 now and this is the first time i'm going to try some dieting plan becuase i'm kind of getting fatter now :( sighs. But i think i can learn soemthing from you that is i should really exercise and go to the gym. However, my issue now is that i'm away from home and therefore lack the facilities to go jogging. i did not bring my track shoes here too so no suitable shoes for runnig.
