Least expected!!

We are always prompt in paying our bills but somehow it slipped our mind and we delayed payment of our electricity bill. I was expecting to be fined for late payment which normally reflects in the next month's bill. That bill has arrived and instead of a fine I see a credit there, probably some adjustments!! Wonders never cease! Have you had any such experience? Do share.

I use my credit card for my personal expenses and am financially totally responsible for this. I pay it even approximately at times [after buying travel tickets or so].Once I missed it on account of some oversight and for the sake of a measly overdue of some spill over of fifty rupees or so I was charged a penalty of four hundred and fifty rupees[cannot remember exactly but it was above four hundred]; of course I got in touch with customer care and got them to waive it after some convincing .Ever since that occasion I pay my bill online soon after I use my credit card. I hate the concept of paying penalty for some oversight like that and feel terribly guilty about it. I have not had experience as yours but this is just a participation. How did the weekend go? Was it better than what you expected?

People always prefer to push things under the carpet and gloss over everything as though nothing has happened and that they are all lilywhite.

Once bitten twice shy? We all tend to become extra careful when we have slipped once and that one slip is necessary. The weekend was ok although they would have preferred it if I just accepted them with open arms which I did not

I always pay my bill on time. Even to postpone one day is risky because then I may totally forget it. Waiting till the last date is meaningless. But once, it did happen to me. I got the bill on Tuesday and I thought I will pay on Friday. And then, I totally forgot about it forone whole week.

No matter how organised one is sometimes slips are inevitable as it happened in my case.I was expecting penalty instead I get a refund which happens to be interest payment on the deposit we have with the company!

Hi allknowing, Sometimes life presents you with unexpected incident like this. You are lucky. It could have been what you thought you would get - a fine. Anyway, you probably need to be more careful next time as you'll not always have such lucky escapes. Anyway, as for me I make my utilities payments by giving instructions to the bank to deduct directly each month. So all I have to do is to make sure that I have enough funds in my account. Have a nice day.

I am very particular about settling dues. This was a slip. We too have that system for payment through banks but not all have that arrangement.

we have, we should have payed the bill on a weekday but forgot so what happened was the bill collectors went to our house on a weekend and they got our payment with penalty. i hate it that these people can be very slow in providing service but are here right away when they need to collect the bills.

So you least expected them to come so fast to collect their dues

I had once receive a water sewerage bill and I kept it straight into the cabinet. I do not know why I did that . Until one fine day, I was clearing my cabinet and I realized that I have not paid for the bill and it had been overdued by a month. The company usually send out this billing quaterly. I immediately get it paid and fortunately they did not penalized me for late payment

You got away as it was a quarterly bill and so you had enough time to settle your bill. In my case it was delayed by a few days and here if it is delayed by even on day they normally penalise but strangely instead, I got a credit. I shall call them up and ask them what that credit is for.

That's great! I'm never late on my bills. Just the thought of a late fee gives me a sick feeling. I'm glad you got a credit!

There was a time wherein I failed to paid for my phone bill on time. Now not realizing when was the last time I paid, I over paid by a month's bill and was greatly relieved actually coz I do not have to worry about paying for the following month.

This is like some household chores one does before they are due and when the time comes for attending to them, there is such relief that they are already attended to.

i had a loan that i had forgotten completely about so many years later, it came back to "collect" of course. good thing, i had money that i plunked into a mutual fund and also forgotten completely about so i used 3/4 of that to pay it. our electricity bill doesn't allow overpayment, they only accept the exact amount. with the water bill, i round it off, like if it's Php 671, i'd pay Php 675 and they would deduct the amount on the next bill. oh i remember now, our electric meter was changed because it was really old and dirty so it has gotten slow. we were supposed to pay the difference in what was charged to us covering the past 6 months. i paid almost Php 1000 additional on the first bill since it was changed. when i went to their office, they said they've decided to waive the rest since the difference is minimal and maybe because we've always been a good payer for decades and never been involved in illegal connections.

I wish the sources here also feel that those who pay regularly need not be charged if they slip occasionally but that does not happen here. In my case I am sure they forgot to see the date of our cheque and so they did not penalise us! Charging you the difference because the new meter is going slow is not fair really. I am happy they did not do it in the end.
