Have you ever tracked anyone down to thank them?

Have you ever had anything significant happen in your life where you owe a major thank you to someone who helped you? Have you ever wished you could track that person down to thank them, or let them know how they helped you?
These days it seems a lot easier to do.
A woman from New Jersey did just that!
When she was 5 years old she accidentally slipped into the pool and almost drowned. This was in 1964. Back in those days lifeguards were not required to know CPR. But one particular 21 year old lifeguard was a medical student and did happen to know CPR. He pulled the girl from the water and resuscitated her.
The 2 never met again.
But recently the woman came across the story in an old family scrapbook and decided to look up the lifeguard, just to say thank you. With the help of a Google search she was able to find his phone number, and called him up.

No, although I have thought about it and tried.
When I was a baby I was deathly sick...I had spinal meningitis. The first doctor just gave me Valium and sent me home with my mother and maternal grandmother. However, both of them noticed I wasn't getting any better. In fact, I was getting worse! So they took me back the hospital. A doctor, who was not my regular doctor, happened to be walking by. When he saw me he knew instantly that I had meningitis. Right then and there he took over my case and said I needed to be in ICU. Unfortunately there was no room there. However, he knew the severity of my case and made them take someone out, just so they could get me in there.
If it hadn't been for him (and my family) I wouldn't be here today. I'd love to be able to thank him for saving my life, but I've been unsuccessful in my search. All I know is his last name and I'm not sure how to spell that...

That's a great story!
I guess it would be much easier to track down people nowadays, specially with facebook, and every body wanting to be 'plugged in'.
I'm trying to recall though if somebody's made a great impact on me that I want to track down. Unless I have a similar life-threatening experience I don't really have a reason to track down anybody.

what a lovely lady to track him down and thank him. I have never experienced anything like this and don't have anyone to track down
I'm going to think a bit harder about this.

I've never had something this significant happen in my life that I've felt like I needed to look someone up to thank them for something that they've done for me in my life. However, if I did have something like that to happen, I do believe that in the world that we live in today it would be perfectly possible to look that person up and thank them for the major impact that they made in my life.
The digital world that we live in today is much different from the world that we lived in when we were growing up and before.

I am a very conscientious and appreciative person.
every simple of kindness matters that much to me.
i usually would not feel at ease without thanking someone who's done something good to me...and so, yes, i would really really track that person through and through!
it's even my usual thing to hand something--even the simplest stuff i could give as my way of saying "i can never thank you enough" -- gail montero
