make your passion your profession

i just saw a bollywood movie "3 Idiots". i think one of the things that was embedded in my mind is the phrase "make your passion your profession". there's this character who's talking up engineering in college because his parents want him to. but deep inside, he really loves photography. i think a person can only succeed in life if he knows what he wants. it's easier to do things when you enjoy it. i think it's one of the most important things students should consider in choosing what course to take up in college.

I do believe that when a person truly love his work, he is able to provide quality results. And that being said would surely make himself successful. It is just sad that some people are forced to work on something even though they really do not like the job , because it is hard to look for other jobs, there is nothing they can do.

well because of lack of opportunity to find job in their chosen fields. there are nurses who work in call centers, etc.

That is true. When I was still working in a call center, I had 3 tranchmates who were nursing Graduates. And all of them had the same reason for working in that office-lacking the opportunity to practice their profession.

we can't blame them. they are just getting practical with the current status of our economy. though i feel like they are wasting the time they spent in school studying in their chosen field.

That is what I did. I tried studying engineering then took computer studies later. I realized that I am not that interested. All I wanna do that time and until now is to travel. So I ended up being a travel agent. So now I am doing what I love most and I am able to share it to anyone through my clients and at the same time earning from it.

well, i'm glad you have found your interest and what you love early on before you get stuck in a world that would eventually make your life miserable.

great to hear that. i think if you really enjoy what you're doing, you will give more than 100% of your effort and that helps your grow as a person.

What you said is true. If I had watched this movie 7 years ago, I should have asked myself. What's my passion? Seriously, I get a degree because I wanted to earn more money, but it seems like that the career I get is in shaky situation. When my brother asked me what course he would like to get, I told him to follow his passion and it seems like he is enjoying his studies.

a lot of people chose their courses base on how much money they could potentially earn. that's so true. i wish you could find a way to enjoy your job. maybe you just need some motivation. i think the advice you gave to your brother is great. at least you learned from your mistake.

In my case my mother insist that I take up the course, now it's not my first choice. It's pretty bad if you don't follow what you really like and you just want your parents to be happy. But they are not the one who will work and it's your life.

i'm happy you have the guts to fight for what you think is right for you. one day, when you have succeeded in your chosen field, your parents will eventually understand you.

hi i love that bollywood movie. i dunno why, maybe because it gives me knowledge how to choose our future, how to reach it and many others, like the obstacle that we have to face when we want to be success. yeah, and that phrase. actually the first time i didn't understand until it happened to me. i want to be civil servant but my mother asked me to become a doctor. and now, i have to choose one of them.

well it's really a big dilemma what course you will choose. of course you don't want to hurt your mother but this big choice will really affect your future. i wish she would understand what you really want and be happy for it.

I love the phrase "If you love your work, then you never work a day in your life." When we have passion and enjoy our jobs, it doesn't feel like work. I hope that we can all someday will have a job that we can all enjoy. It is a lot harder to achieve though than said.

some people go to their jobs because of high salary. most of the time they are not happy. so i guess doing what you love just makes life easier.

I know this movie. I have watched it and it is mainly about educational status and how the professors teach their students. I miss Raju, Farhan and the best is Rancho. Rancho is the most intelligent student in that movie. He said, He is good because the loves what he is doing. He really like to be engineer. He always say, "all is well".

"all is well." hehehe i think rancho excels not really because he's the most intelligent in the pack but because he really loves what he's doing. remember the silencer?

Agree Iluvusabado [and I love Sabado, too - j-o-l-l-i-b-e-e ;)]. Not only with the profession but even in studying. It's not a matter of course or school but do you really like being there studying that? When we like what we do, we forget the problems and feel comfortable with challenges. And in the workplace, even if your boss is an epitome of problem, your workplace is hell, and your salary is just enough, if you enjoy and love what you do, you'll find ways to get through all of them. My dream job is something I can grow old with and be proud to be considering it as my greatest achievement - loving my job. Thanks for the discussion :)

i love that you're enjoying your job right now. it's really true that the happiness you gain from work is more important than how much you get paid. glad you remember that movie. not really a favorite though.
