Harassed Students

It bothers me very much when I hear about a student being harassed. I feel terrible when I hear that students commit suicide when they are being made fun of. I feel that there should be a requirement that teachers teach their students about harassing others. They can do this by putting on some kind of a play where someone is being harassed. Maybe the students can be given an assignment where they make up a small play. Something really dramatic so they can feel how hurt someone can be when made fun of.

That would be a great start, but i think teaching the students to be less competitive and more incorporative, is the key. What i mean is that, kids are the world are very self concious, yes even the most confident ones. We need to provide platforms that will help kids to accept their flaws and turn them into strenghts, so that they dont try to show off their shallow selves. We need to create programs like a buddy program, in which a sincere senior takes responsibility of the incoming juniors in college, and be their mentors, that way even if they are harassed, they have someone they can trust and be comfortable with. Same thing is with kids in schools, there should be programs to help build student student interaction. That way, the bullies look nothing more than a bunch of losers. WHen the mentoring starts at a micro scale, it will build a good foundation and prevent harassing, and that odd person who would try to bully, people would be more confident to come out openly and nip him in the bud. But i guess that is too much to ask for. But i love your topic! :)

There are a lot stuff about ragging in the news. It has decreased to some extent by the law giving severe punishment and imprisonment. But still it has not stopped totally. Even in my college my seniors ragged us, telling that it is not ragging, it is just an official introduction... I just don't know when it is going to be stopped..
