hello mylotters! election time is here again. and now is actually in the middle of the campaign period. it is that time again where you hear ridiculously loud campaign recordings and such. that time again when you could see political posters everywhere you look on the streets. of all the faces and slogans, one promise stands off. "for a better life, vote for --". so i wonder. can a politician really make that much impact on an individual? if i were to vote this politician, how can that politician improve MY life? i know they have to make ordinances and all. but how does it directly affect me?

In fact, its not about a politician to affect our lives. And a politician really can not, but a LEADER can. We do not need politicians but we really need leaders. A leader can really affect an individual's life directly. Once we vote to a really sincere person, his job is not to make rules only. He is also there to get them implemented. His policies towards betterment of the society matter. If a leader has a greater vision, he can make such policies which will directly affect our lives. For example, if they provide us with good public transport and order that no one is allowed to use his personal transport while proceeding for Job/Business etc, don't you think that it will have direct affect on our lives? Don't you think that energy requirement and pollution etc will decrease remarkably? This will have a direct effect on prices of various commodities.

yes, it can. but not always. you see. the issue is about the politician's promises. not whether he is corrupt or not.

Let's us presume that the person who will win and take seat for the next 3 years is not corrupt, then I say yes. It is not directly to you, but to the community. He person can develop a better municipal, provide livelihood project and build schools and hospitals, then it can affect you because you are now living in a better place. There will be peace and order, tourism will be uplifted. Don't expect that they will hand out to you food and money, but at least a better fighting chance to uplift the quality of your life.

i understand that. but the way the politician says it, mind you a councilor, it's as it your personal life will improve. ok, suppose the community improves. but that doesn't necessarily mean that your life will improve with it. the richer a community is, the more people who are poor. so, even if the city coffers overflow with riches, personal improvement still depends on the individual. and politicians should make it clear to the voters. the sad thing is, some politicians invest in OUR naivete. they know how to exploit OUR emotions, no matter how much we claim to have the logic.

Hi murkie, It is true that very often this is just greed, but once in a while someone does come around who really cares. In any election campaign it's always a good idea to keep informed, learn what you can about each candidate and make your choose. It may seem unimportant but it's better to have a right to choose than not being allowed to vote a all. Always, some politicians are better than others. Blessings.

you are right on that one, pose. " It may seem unimportant but it's better to have a right to choose than not being allowed to vote a all." so each choice should be well thought of.

How can a single politician improve my life? They should get married! Well, it's election year here too & the long campaigns have started already. If they really wanted to improve my life, the best way they can do so is to stay out of it! Every time they get involved, they only end up buggering it up & then they're so incompetant that they end up buggering up their buggering up of people's lives! In all seriousness, even if they have a hung parliament once again, at least that would limit the chances of politicians pushing more taxes on us & more economic restrictions & more of all of the bad stuff that has gone on. Even if what they do push through isn't popular, so long as it helps put the country & its people in a better position, I'll consider myself directly affected in a good way.

The right to suffrage nowadays are defeated by the cheating done by these politicians. One single vote won't matter at all, if the rest of the voters were vote by the opponent of your chosen candidate. Now, how can that politician really affect your life? It takes people's full support as well, not only a single vote from you or me. If we choose someone who's righteous, but he won't get the full support from the people, he would be incapable of affecting our life at all.

in my observation, most voters use their emotion in choosing their candidate. instead of logic, they tend to look at who among the candidates has the most miserable life and then sympathize with him/her. by the way, that single vote, when taken together with the rest of the other single votes, it would end up with some results, don't it? so "people's support" is a product of that "single vote".

These politicians have the same style. All of them think that we voters are very easy to believe them with all their empty promises and slogans that are frankly old school that everyone knows are fake. I have lost hope in Philippine politics. I still exercise my right of suffrage and pray that one day the Philippines will have better leaders, not the ones in the office today. As long as these traditional politicians rule, we have no chances of getting better.

what's worse is that most people do believe in them. that's why they become incumbent. you and me may not like a politician. but if everybody else loved that politician, then there's nothing more we can do. whoever wins, it is the people who are to be blamed.

Yes u are absolutely right, such politicians who promise of changing our life overnight are just fake ones, they r only their to gain votes of the people and nothing else, in such a case we should always vote for the politicians carefully.

same thought as i have. those the promise the loudest are the ones who could do the least. and take note that the politician who has this in his banner is just running as city councilor. so what can he do, right? i agree with you that we must vote carefully. but then again, it's just not that easy. thanks for the response
