Garbage all over the place here.....

Mexico
April 21, 2013 8:56am CST
Im a very clean person.. I hate trash or garbage. Here in Mexico city, the trash collectors have gone on strike since last Monday. Today, I walked outside and there is garbage all over the place. On the streets, people lawns every where. I hate it. But I cant clean up it all. Only whats near my home and cafe.

That is terrible. I hope they get things straightened out and people get back to work. Our dumpster is already overloaded and they just dumped it this past Thursday. The kids next to me has been putting a bunch of boxes in it. I have asked them to tear the boxes down so there would be more room. They are just too lazy to do it.

I saw in newspaper yesterday, they are even talking over the strike. i hope it ends soon. if people would just bag trash and put it up high, dogs couldnt get it. Plus many street people are going through trash looking for cans and things. have a great Sunday there.

I think it's a great shame that people don't take pride in where they live and think it's ok just to leave garbage about, or throw litter without concern. The trouble is with garbage all over the place it attracts the vermin and then it becomes even more of a health hazard, as well as being totally unsightly.

There could be a garbage strike but why is garbage all over the place. Why isn't it in bags lined up on the sidewalks? We have had garbage strikes in New York years ago but for the most part everything is lined up along the sidewalks. Unless the dogs are getting to the garbage. Once things don't fit in the garbage cans I guess all the stray dogs will get to the bags. It must also be a horrible smell in the streets.

I don't like trash either and I wonder who likes to have trash and garbage all over. It's annoying to see garbage near our place, but thanks it's not happening here in our place. So far the garbage collectors are doing their job very well.

Yeah that is very disgusting to hear especially for someone who is much particular about cleanliness. Besides i know since garbage collectors r on strike it would be terrible to walk around as no one would dare to collect those garbage other than the collectors. i hope their demands r met n they get to work as quickly as possible. What is the reason of their strike?

My theory on strikes is to get someone else who wants to do the job while the others are on strike, then do not let the other ones come back to work. If they appreciated their jobs, they wouldn't try to go on strike. Labor unions are one of the main problems that need to be done away with here in the U.S.

I can't speak for Mexico, except to say that the reason things are so bad there is because of government corruption. Government corruption is becoming more and more of a problem in America too, and unless the American people work together to take our country back by whatever means necessary, America will soon be in the same condition as Mexico. Labor unions should be outlawed her in America...

I agree, its happening more and more all over the world.
• Mexico

I agree, but its not done that way in Mexico. The unions dont allowed that. They would hurt or kill anyone who would step into to their jobs.

omg. thats scarey for it brings rats and things to everyones house that leave it there. then desease and plagues could start. i heard new york did that once. when are you moving? are you still in mexico? in our neighborhood here in AZ, usa, if you leave trash out or in your yard, you get fined.

I've been in a city where the trash collectors went on strike. It was terrible! The government was playing hardball, and the union was also holding out because they knew that when the garbage piled up, the people would be for them and would help push the government to cave in. You can only do so much.

Why are they on strike?

they should give them what they want. It's very unsanitary to let garbage hanging around. People might get sick.

Wow maria that is so bad to have the trash all over the place why does Mexico not hire people to take over while they are on strike like they do in the USA and what will make it bad is you will have to clean it all up on your own with no help from the thrash people who pick it up

That is a perfect opportunity for corrupted cops and army men to do some productive work. I say take the police and army, and make them clean it up. It's not like they do anything anyway. Problem solved. :D

Sorry to hear that. I have only been to Mexico twice and both times I was rather shocked because the quality of life there was not as high as I had expected. I did not know whether it was always like that or if my timing. was just off. The city certainly has many beautiful places. Well, here in the USA we have strikes and brown-outs and Things too, so we hope people who experience them do Not get a bad overall impression.

Whoowh..your government should fix the problem with the garbage collectors. They are indeed our very need to clean the surroundings. Without them, it would be a mess and diseases will be scattered all over the community. And as a help you should start to clean your area first. It would be a great help.

It is so considerate and civic-minded of you to clear up what you can! It is easy for us to forget what others have done for us and take for granted that our streets will be clean, when there are so many people doing such "dirty jobs" for us. I always try to remind myself to be grateful whenever I see cleaners clearing our rubbish. Hope the strike ends soon!

24 Apr 13
Your right.. most here just dont care. The strike is over now. Im so glad for that.
22 Apr 13
yeah it's really disgusting even here in India the man who collects the garbage is an employee of our municipal Corporation ... so in that case he becomes a government employee so he cannot bunk his job so much in that case we are a bit lucky .. as every mrning at 7 he comes and collects the garbage of our locality
