Today I tried to help one of my friends get a rent-a-car..We called Avis , Budget, Hertz..etc..no one had what she needed..She wanted a midsize minivan..And it was the old needle in a haystack...Then we decided to get on the internet to help our search..And all of the sites weren't (updated recently) they said..So we ended up pulling up the yellow pages on the net and calling rental sites that popped up in surrounding cities..All of the ones that had one without a mile waiting list, you had to have a credit card for..Guess what? She doesn't have one:(..So she ended up calling Chrysler and getting a Crown Vic..We spent at least two hrs ..She was frustrated..and I was getting paid to help, because I was at work.So it didn't bother me:) /So how hard is it for you to get a car for the holidays?

It is almost as hard as trying ot get plane tickets at the last minute. When you know you will need a car around the holidays and you live in a busy metropolis you should always rent a few weeks ahead. Some places - like Enterprise - will rent to you using a debit card if you have an in state license.
