Why do we believe the things we believed???

April 28, 2013 9:39pm CST
This discussion is primarily focus on the religious perspective. I tried to put some reasons on this question until I decided to just allow interested mylotters to cite their own and the explanation behind it. It's fun sharing at the same time earning and learning.

I believe the things I believe because I research carefully each belief. Example: I don't believe that hell (shoel) is a place of torture. It is simply the grave where we go when we die. There is no pain or suffering there. We are non-existent until God resurrects us.

I believe the things that I believed in because I can feel them. Example: I believe in God because my heart feels that He does exists. I believe that the world was not created by some sort of accidental meteor collision. I believe that there is a higher spirit with a super intelligent mind that created everything.

I also agree with this one for truly I feel God wherever I am. In some instances, faith also allows us to somehow reason out the things that are unexplanable such as miracles and other sort of things.

We believe the things we believed because that is our parents and other people around us teach about what they believe. It was pass down from generation to generation.

because the bible is the word of God. God is not a liar and not even a single word that came out from His mouth got failed. So, is there a single reason not to believe the Bible.. for me there is nothing.

If they say religion "makes sense" I personally think they don't have a tight grasp on what the concept of Christianity is about. The trinity, and how the Bible teaches that Jesus is God's son just don't make sense to scientists or agnostics. But faith, faith makes the unbelievable believable. I'm citing this religion specifically because I grow up with the Bible. And to repeat your question: Why do we believe the things we believe? Simple. Faith. But why faith? Because it makes things simpler, it narrows our curiosity for the things unknown and it alleviates anxiety arising from the "pointlessness" of existence. I believe in each of us there's this deep inherent need to connect with a Being much greater than us in terms of power and intelligence. Man seeks for everlasting fulfillment. Do you notice, even when a person disapproves the existence of a God, he still won't stop thinking and talking about it?

I was never here for the few dollars but it was appreciated. I like to discuss subjects of interest and made some nice friends. As long as the place stays similar where one can discuss their own point of view in a respectful way whether others agree or not then I will be happy to visit as I have time. May God bless each one with the true knowledge that only he can teach!
